Second viewing emphasized the highs and the lows more than the initial one. I think it’s a very good movie in the 5-10 range of the year but the way people have, to touch back to the canonization of best picture winners, immediately canonized that film is a little silly to me
If you want to say something is marvel coded that’s cool but back it up and defend that position which they didn’t.
Yeah I didn’t get the MCU comparisons regarding the actual plot of the film or anything, but my biggest criticism was that parts of it looked like shit. Still a fun movie. As I said in my initial take: the themes in Sinners are obviously much more important, but From Dusk Til Dawn is the better film.
When I said Marvel-coded, it was just a feeling. Honestly never thought people would be quoting me weeks later in various threads trying to unpack my meaning. Also you can call me Jonathan, don't need to be referred to as Ooty if we're going to continuously talk about me in third person
It shouldn't be that controversial a thing to say considering that his blockbuster experience was making those Marvel movies.
Was listening to a podcast that theorized bc Cregger is seemingly the only Oscar bubble director actively directing a movie right now - let alone one internationally - he hasn’t been able to campaign at all, which is a dumb reason and a bummer but makes sense
People keep bringing up Weapons but it is probably hard to sell a movie where an old lady is disemboweled by a gang of possessed elementary school kids. These are mostly the same people who voted for Green Book.
Also people don’t watch all the movies and they already watched Sinners, Ann Lee would have been nominated if anyone other than Kirsten Dunst watched it
The regulars on this forum watch more movies than the average Oscar voter. Some of them have admitted to letting their grandkids or one of their butlers fill out the ballot.
A fair point, but with that film a lot of the draw was for the Very Important Themes. It was also more cartoonishly violent.
