Roma absolutely should win Best Picture I haven't seen The Favorite yet though, and heard its incredible as well. Love Yorgos Lanthimos though so I'd be happy with his win.
I feel like the Academy's aversion towards genre films backfired big time, giving so much recognition to things like Green Book and Bohemian Rhapsody instead.
It’ll never win, but it’s really cool that Free Solo got nominated for documentary. Some mind blowing footage there, worth checking out if you’re at all interested in rock climbing or just generally the psychology of fear/adrenaline.
Sorry, my numbers were screwed up earlier. Black Panther (7) (Production Design, Costume Design, Sound Editing, Sound Mixing, Score, Song) Blackkklansman (6) (Director, Supporting Actor, Adapted Screenplay, Film Editing, Score) Bohemian Rhapsody (5) (Actor, Film Editing, Sound Editing, Sound Mixing) The Favourite (10) (Director, Actress, Supporting Actress x2, Original Screenplay, Cinematography, Film Editing, Production Design, Costume Design) Green Book (5) (Actor, Supporting Actor, Original Screenplay, Film Editing) Roma (10) (Director, Actress, Supporting Actress, Original Screenplay, Cinematography, Foreign Language Film, Production Design, Sound Editing, Sound Mixing) A Star is Born (8) (Actor, Actress, Supporting Actor, Adapted Screenplay, Cinematography, Song, Sound Mixing) Vice (8) (Director, Actor, Supporting Actor, Supporting Actress, Original Screenplay, Film Editing, Makeup)
I’m surprised how underrated it is by the academy at least. They seem to love Damian Chazelle. Personally it was in my top 5 for the year. Surprising understated and moving.
One of the biggest surprises for me was seeing Alexandre Desplat get in for his Isle of Dogs score. Really enjoyed the music in Isle of Dogs so it was cool to see.
