Can someone explain the references to Crash? I honestly can’t remember if I’ve seen that movie before.
The films aren’t really that similar, it’s that they’re both, “Hooray! We beat racism!” drivel that upset far more deserving and beloved films. No one actually remembers Crash as a film, only that it beat Brokeback Mountain. And the same will happen to this.
And unless Rami was gonna take the stage and denounce his win (for a nomination he should have in good conscience refused) I’m not happy he won at all. Great actor. But for this awards season to just pretend Bohemian Rhapsody directed itself, or was basically a stand in for how much everyone likes the band Queen and their sanitized vision of Freddie, is fucking gross
Why was Eighth Grade not nominated for anything? That movie was just as good as some of the movies nominated tonight and for it to get NO nominations is ridiculous. I get the "Best Actress" category was stacked but Elsie should have been nominated for her role.
Singer is a monster, of course, but Bohemian Rhapsody also didn’t deserve to win anything because it’s a genuinely shit movie. What a bag of ass that film was.
he also downplayed Freddie's sexuality a few months back and then when he won was like "Freddie was gay and living his truth"
In the end, it comes down to campaigning and A24 hasn’t been the best at it (minus when they team up with a production company like Plan B). They likely knew they weren’t going to be able to compete with the bigger films, so they didn’t have much of a campaign (though I’ll say they have the most creative lobbying in the business).
Green Book won Best Picture. It beat Black Panther and BlacKkKlansman. If Beale Street Could Talk wasn't even nominated. This is America.
Whole first 2 hours oscars were making me think they changed their ways with all the Women and POC representaion in not only the winners but the presenters as well then they go and remind us that they never truly got off their bullshit.
Shouldn’t Oscar voters be slightly more self-aware by now? I mean, it’d be one thing if Green Book and Bohemian Rhapsody were exceptional on an artistic level, but they aren’t even that in comparison to the other nominees. It’s just dumb on so many levels.
Why should anyone believe anything the racist, lying son of a racist liar has to say? Especially when he’s putting words in the mouth of dead person of color? Like this is just surreal to watch.
Probably thought they got all their points already so they could get away with Green book winning best picture
