The Academy is really defying expectations and their own history here. It can't be understated how insane and amazing it is that Black Panther is beating The Favourite in these categories.

 

I feel like The Favourite should be cleaning up.

 

Good shit, Black Panther. But surprised as I thought it’d be a The Favuorite. Or Marry Poppins becsuse the fucking Acadmey.

It helps that they boosted their diversity inclusion of voting members in the wake of #OscarSoWhite

 

Feels like another Mad Max where they throw a lot of well deserved production awards to avoid giving it the Picture win

It’s fairly innovative though, so I’m glad they’re recognizing it. There are plentiful films that look like the Favourite (not that this fact discredits how great the design is), but Black Panther offered something so fresh in my opinion. Definitely a deserved win.

The right choice.

 

It 100% is deserved. The Favourite is just the stereotypical film that wins those awards, regardless of how innovative the competition is. It's the exact textbook definition of what the Academy loves to give Costume Design and Production Design to. So it's a huge deal for Black Panther to beat it.
