Hereditary and Eighth Grade were two of my favorites that could have easily had nominations in a few categories. First Reformed was also really good, but I have some issues with the people involved that I didn’t really know about when I saw it, so that recommendation comes with some reservation. There’s also stuff like Shoplifters and Burning that is still sort of outside the realm of what gets nominated, but maybe that will change at some point. And I would have loved Sorry to Bother You to be in the mix too.
Yep, it’s fantastic. I haven’t been able to see Shoplifters yet but I would have loved for one of those two to get some recognition with everything else Roma could/probably will win but oh well
also I suck and haven’t seen any of the doc nominees yet but I refuse to believe that all five of them are better than Won’t You Be My Neighbor
Of the four previous times a movie was nominated for both Best Foreign Language and Best Picture, they all got the Foreign Language win. If Roma wins both, it’d be the first.
While that may be true, I meant that it must have been deserving of atleast a nom Definitely keen on seeing Minding the Gap, Free Solo and Hale County though, just been slacking
Yep Minding The Gap, and WYBMN? Were both incredible. I would give the edge to the former. Both made me more emotional than a film has in years.
would really like to see Minding the Gap but have no idea how i'm supposed to see it. documentaries never show in theaters around me
2019 Independent Spirit Awards: ‘If Beale Street Could Talk’ Triumphs this is basically everyone's ideal Oscars minus no The Favourite
I wanted Minding the Gap to win until I saw Free Solo last night. Absolutely stunning movie, though both are really great. I'd be psyched if either won.
Minding the Gap was the best movie I saw last year. I’ve seen 5 of the best picture noms (Star, Rhapsody, Panther, Klan, and Roma). Of those 5 Roma was hands down the best, IMO. Capital F, film. Rhapsody was one of the worst movies I saw last year, wasn’t even crazy about Maleks performance. I’m not a big Marvel/comic fan so I enjoyed Black Panther, just didn’t love it. A Star is Born was excellent as well, extremely impressed with Bradley Cooper as a director. Basically aced everything that BR didn’t. Sam Elliot was fantastic. Blackkklansmen was fine? Funny and well shot but that Boots Riley review stuck in my head after it was done. Can you separate the movie from what actually happened? Leaves me with a weird taste.
