good. can't wait to see that Buster Scruggs song live! also, does anyone know what qualifies a song for an Oscar/do you have any personal feelings how it should be. for me, I always felt the song should be within the film to be eligible. I never really liked when a song from the end credits is nominated if it's no where to be found in the rest of the film. I don't really know why, just didn't feel like that should count to me.
I think they might have changed it years ago but I think now, the "for your consideration" clip is how the song is presented in the movie, whether it's within the narrative of the film or during the end credits. If it's in the end credits, it has a lower chance of being nominated as voters are less likely to be enthralled if they're seeing names being listed on the screen. The Shallow scene in A Star Is Born is a prime example of a (likely) winner since it's a pivotal point in the movie.
I can’t think of any best songs off the top of my head from credits only, what are some good examples?
It depends for me, Stay ( I Missed You) is only in the end credits of Reality Bites and is always associated with that movie Obviously ideally it's in the beginning like a Bond theme or in a pivotal moment
Looking at the list, I see the song from Slumdog Millionaire played over the credits but that featured a whole choreographed dance number
Yeah I was hoping that list would specify placement for songs but that’s a tall order. I did give it a look though and I absolutely forgot one of my favorites. Say You, Say Me from White Nights is definitely in credits only, but it’s such a great song that I have never minded that being associated with it.
I think the Mary J Blige song from last year was credits only I don't remember the Jennifer Hudson song this year so that might have been too
Also best original song seems outdated , besides like Let It Go and Shallow movies don't really have songs anymore like they did in the 80s
I definitely agree with this, but I also like that the category still exists personally, it's one of the fun ones. It also gives them an excuse to have big musical numbers during the broadcast. Although after they tried to do away with three of the performances this year the Academy clearly doesn't agree with me so idk lol
What's Up Danger from Into The Spider-Verse was pretty damn poignant, if we're talking songs that are actually placed within their respective movie
Speaking of Original Song, I just remembered a regular AP.net/Chorus poster played drums in this performance.... I’m trying to find her name but to no avail
With the DGA win, Cuaron is pretty much a lock for the Oscar. Also, big congrats to Bo Burnham for winning Best First Time Feature Film. Well deserved.
