Green Book is an enjoyable film as long as you take the story with a grain of salt. It’s not BP material. And the effort to solve racism isn’t helping.

La La Land deserves so much more credit than Green Book or Crash, c'mon.

Yeah La La Land is nowhere near the same level as Crash and Green Book, that’s absurd.

It’s better than them. The point is the whiteness.

Just watched BlacKKKlansman. Damn, those Charlottesville scenes gutted me.

4 Best Picture nominees down, 4 more to go. Sucks that Vice, Star, Favourite and Green Book aren't available for On Demand yet.

  8. Still 3/8 with Black Panther, BlacKkKlansman, and The Favourite. Just saw If Beale Street Could Talk. Wow.

Why stop at 8 and nominate Green Book and Bohemian Rhapsody but exclude If Beale Street Could Talk? They got two empty slots, and those two movies shouldn't even be there.

Still need to see Roma. Not really interested in A Star is Born and Vice, although I'm sure they're fine films with nothing problematic about them. Had If Beale Street Could Talk been nominated, it'd be at the top of my list right now.

Oh, also saw Shoplifters. Don't think I mentioned that here. So good. I kept wanting it to end because where it inevitably goes is so heartbreaking.

Why deprive yourself of If Beale Street Could Talk just because it’s not nominated?

when it comes down to who actually wins I have a significant less interest. my favorite part about awards season is the discovery and discussion of films nominated vs what everyone thinks should or shouldn't have been nominated instead. talking about movies is fun and I catch a number of movies I might have missed otherwise.

not necessarily academy related, but since this thread is full of film fans, thought I'd share a website I really enjoy reading.

Cinephilia & Beyond, Films and Filmmaking lots of great in depth articles surrounding the making of and history of films

JustWatch - Streaming Search Engine for Movies and TV Shows I haven't checked but this is my go to site for finding where something might be streaming. though I will say according to this site, the foreign film Cold War is on Tubi and I couldn't find it at all. first time I've run into that though. usually pretty reliable.

Oh! I misread your post, I thought you were saying if it had been nominated, it'd be at the top of your list to watch. My bad.

Any movie theaters nearby? Usually movies get a wider release/re-release after nominations are announced

Only movie playing nearby is Green Book (as of now). I really want to see A Star is Born next.....I know it comes out on Blu Ray end of February but I'm hoping it gets added to on demand sooner.

Seeing The Favourite on Saturday, then I’ll be caught up on Picture nominees aside from Bohemian, which I’m still debating even watching tbh.

Black Panther is the only one I haven't seen, debating whether or not to watch it on Netflix (i'm not much of a super hero movie watcher)

I think if your goal is to watch the best picture nominees, go for it. it's on Netflix, so worst case scenario if you find you're not feeling it, you can turn it off haha. best case scenario you enjoy it haha. and the nice part about it is overall from my memory at least it's pretty self contained so you don't have to worry about the larger mcu universe. but how you end up feeling watching it could also play into a critique of your best picture opinions.

Still gotta catch Green Book, Roma, and Vice and I’ll be all caught up on BP noms
