I think this makes you a pizzagate follower or something. (GOTG 2 was pretty good, but not as good as the first imo.)
GOTG 2 was a good film. The more I watch it the more I appreciate the family dilemma and personal drama between Peter/Ego and Gamora/Nebula.
I think GOTG2 is just as good as 1, but I have to give the edge to 1 just because it was so fresh and exciting at the time it came out.
Some thoughts. - Christian Bale is gonna win best actor and I’m not ok with that. - Sam Rockwell getting a nod over countless others more deserving is also shitty - Best Actress race is pretty exciting this year - Claire Foy not getting best supporting is a travesty, marina getting the nom was probably the biggest surprise for me - never even heard of “never look away” with the cinematography nom, guess I should look into that - M:I- Fallout was one of the most impressive films of last year so it sucks it was completely ignored in the technicals. - Cold War for directing? Another movie I’m gonna have to check out - i see recs for Minding The Gap so adding that to the list as well. - why in the world does Vice have so many noms? Like really, just cause it hits all those Oscar sweet spots? Movie was not very good. - First Man not getting best score is total bullshit, that’s the most upsetting. BUT I am happy it was recognized in other categories
Oh man, how irresponsible of me to not spoiler tag Black Panther getting a Best Picture nomination. I know how much people like going in blind.
Big co-sign on Bale. I hate when they give awards just based on how much someone changed their body for a role, plus he’s such an awful person to be rewarding. That seems to be the main thread among best actors in recent memory though, so I guess it gives him an advantage.
"For more than a decade, movie-lovers have enjoyed the AMC best picture showcase to catch up on the nominated films that played at AMC throughout the prior year," the company said in a statement. "This year, Academy members nominated a film that was never licensed to AMC to play in our theaters. As such, it is not included in the AMC best picture showcase." both the theaters and Netflix seem like they're being shitty
Best Picture thoughts. Black Panther - I enjoyed this film when I saw it in theaters. But for some reason when I rewatched it at home it fell flat for me. I’m not sure if the cultural phenomenon it turned into shaped my view of the film as I was watching it for the first time, but I still can’t deny it’s importance. BlackKklansman - I liked this movie. I didn’t love it (My gf who I watched it with absolutely did though, her favorite movie of the lot) I felt like it was a tad long and just wasn’t as engrossing as the other films nominated. And again, can’t deny it’s relevance. Bohemian Rhapsody - I see most people hating on this movie but I enjoyed it. I love Queen and the tone of the movie was quite fun, I enjoyed all the performances. Of course this wasn’t perfect either, all the personal stuff for Freddie I felt could have been handled so much better. The Favourite - Movie was alright, but I guess it just wasn’t my thing. Sort of confused what constitutes this as a best picture contender but I guess most people are asking that about all the other films. Green Book - I also enjoyed this film as well. From start to finish it set a tone that was consistent and that worked really well for me. Of course it was pretty safe but what the hell I couldn’t help but smile at that happy ending. Roma - The most beautiful film of the year. I can’t believe Alfonso directed and did the cinematography for it as well, what a talent. The movie was mesmerizing from beginning to end, and heartbreaking as well. Probably my favorite to win. A Star Is Born - Good film. I feel like this might be likeliest to win. The concert performances were very well done (Shallow and the last song notably) and another beautiful heartbreaking ending (Akin to First Man but personally less poignant) I just feel like it was slightly bogged down by the circumstances surrounding Jackson Maine’s depression, but that can be just me. Vice- Ugh, this movie has no business being here. It even has like a 60% rotten tomato score. Movie had too many issues to name. Sure, it’s a worthwhile watch if you got nothing else to do at home but c’mon!
Just saw “Stan & Ollie.” It’s a real shame that John C. Reilly didn’t get the nomination over Bale for the typical “Guy that transformed himself to look like a public figure.” He’s really amazing in it. Coogan is too.
was super bummed he wasn't nominated for that role. I felt similar when I watched Sam Elliot in The Hero. I'm glad he got nominated for ASIB, but damn, how was he overlooked for The Hero.
this is funny because I saw Vice last night with my AMC Pass and I'm seeing Stan and Ollie tonight! haha
These new stories are horrifying and fit his MO for all the other ones. He deserves to have everything taken from him and this film should rot.
I posted this in the Accountability thread already but I guess I'll re-post it here too. ‘Nobody Is Going to Believe You’ The full piece is lengthy and comes with a heavy trigger warning for extremely detailed accounts of sexual assault and rape. Bryan Singer is a truly evil monster of the highest caliber.
