That said, I hope Blade Runner 2049 picks up a couple things, especially for cinematography. Roger Deakins is one of the greatest cinematographers alive and it’ll be a crime if he gets snubbed here.
I think so. Get Out was a great film and one of the more exciting and fun theater outings from last year, but I just don't see how it holds up against the other nominations and Blade Runner.
Get Out is as good as any of the other nominations. Good Time, A Quiet Passion and Personal Shopper were never getting nominated but are well deserving.
Get Out is creative, near flawlessly executed, and thematically strong. I get that it doesn't feel like a typical best picture and that it almost certainly won't win, but its case for being the best movie of 2017 extends beyond being the most entertaining theater experience and its social/political relevance. It's an excellent movie.
Get Out winning would be as much good optics as 3 Billboards and Gary oldman winning would be bad optics
I have no idea whats the actual difference between sound editing and sound mixing, but I'm glad there are two awards so in a fair world Dunkirk and win one and Baby Driver can win the other.
Roughly speaking: Sound editor is for the creation of the sounds in the film. So, when someone gets punched, someone has to manufacture the sound that mimics a fist punching a face. That’s the creative component. Sound mixing takes all those tracks and determines how they sit in the mix. Put simply, they create the balance for the overall soundscape.
I would really love to remove Darkest Hour and Three Billboards and put in Blade Runner, The Florida Project, and Mudbound. Would be a pretty unimpeachable field then.
id have Phantom win best picture, DDL best actor, Ronan best actress, Plummer best SupAct, ? best Supactress, id be happy with any of the directors winning, Get out wins best screenplay, disaster artist best adap screenplay, and COCO wins everything else
