Since I'm not as critical of Three Billboards over others, I certainly do not want it to win BP. Even though it wasn't my favorite of last year, I'm cheering for Sally Hawkins for Best Actress and Shape of Water for Best Picture
Aside from the great diversity, the other amazing thing about the Best Director field is that it's four first-time nominees and then PTA (who's only been nominated once before, somehow). Pretty cool to see, and so happy for Peele & Greta, plus Nolan and GDT finally getting the awards recognition they deserve.
https://www.google.com/amp/s/amp.th...oldman-the-oscar-frontrunner-with-a-dark-past Gonna be real disappointed to see 3/4s of the best acting nods go to an abuser and 2 overtly racist characters.
Hell, Metcalf wouldn’t really even be an upset. That’s the one that’ll hurt the most though when she doesn’t win.
I tonya was weaker than I expected and I think that’s a good sign for Laurie Metcalf. Think I’m sticking with her.
I saw it back in March without having seen any of them and I was fine. I used the internet after to fill in the gaps.
My perfect world winners: Visual Effects: War for the Planet of the Apes Original Song: Mystery of Love or Remember Me, Call Me By Your Name or Coco, respectively Original Score: The Shape of Water Production Design: The Shape of Water Sound Mixing: Baby Driver Sound Editing: Dunkirk Film Editing: Baby Driver or Dunkirk Cinematography: Blade Runner 2049 Original Screenplay: Get Out or Lady Bird Adapted Screenplay: Call Me By Your Name Animated Feature: Coco (I suppose? I liked it fine, but this is kind of a weak year for animation tbh) Director: Jordan Peele, Get Out (Totally fine with any of these though) Supporting Actress: Laurie Metcalf, Lady Bird Supporting Actor: Willem Dafoe, The Florida Project Actress: Frances McDormand, Three Billboards (would love to see Saoirse take it too, but fine with any of them) Actor: Timothee Chalamet, Call Me By Your Name (totally cool with Daniel Kaluuya too) Picture: Get Out
Did not think Get Out or The Shape of Water would get best picture nominations, but they are 100% deserving of them. Nice to see movies like that actually get some acknowledgement.
I found it a little odd that Shape of Water didn't get a Visual Effects nomination? If it had, it'd be tied for Most Nominations ever with Titanic, All About Eve and La La Land.
I think I may have been underestimating the degree to which The Shape of Water's Old Hollywood worshipping is resonating with the Academy. I figured it would too weird to get very many nominations; now here it sits with the most of the year. I think it's our best hope at making sure Three Billboards doesn't win Best Picture.
Pretty bummed about Luca and Armie missing noms but overall it’s a good list! Very excited for Get Out and would love it if 3B was upset in every category. Just doesn’t do anything for me compared to the others.
I don't think Get Out has a chance to win Best Picture, I'm surprised they even nominated a horror movie, despite how good it was. I'm biased because I love Lady Bird, but that has a chance to win a lot of these
The only nominee here I feel incredibly strongly about is Blade Runner for Cinematography. Deakins has waited far too long, and BR is the shining jewel in the crown of his entire filmography.
I'm also bummed about Luca but at the same time I don't know who I drop from that Best Director field haha And yeah, Armie was robbed just to give Christopher Plummer a pat on the back for helping remove Kevin Spacey from All The Money In The World. Not happy about it.
