Yawn, Oscar's still shitty and meaningless, glad I didn't watch, Shape of Water was fine but way too mediocre for Best Picture
I meant moreso along the lines of it not being top-tier work from him but still getting the big prize
Total number of wins by each Best Picture nominee: The Shape of Water - 4 Dunkirk - 3 Darkest Hour -2 Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, MO - 2 Call Me By Your Name - 1 Get Out - 1 Phantom Thread - 1 Lady Bird - 0 The Post - 0
Phantom thread was good but I didn't care for call be your name. Loved get out and shape of water, hated 3 billboards........ So I really don't know what I wanted OR expected out of this haha
I just don't get how hard it is to let people speak like it's the biggest category of the night and you are already over on time DONT RUSH
The writing and pacing of the dialogue was so good for Lady Bird that I was surprised it lost for best screenplay. Then again, it lost to Get Out in that category so I can’t be too mad. Still can’t help but feel like it was robbed throughout the night.
Three Billboards didn't win so I'm happy about that. Shape of Water was good, but only the seventh-best of nine nominees. Oh well, it's the Academy.
I went 18/24 this year. I got Sound Editing, Foreign Language Film, Live Action Short, Documentary Short, Documentary Feature, and Original Screenplay wrong.
in a year of some incredibly deep an nuanced films, i really just can’t believe we’re awarding the beast allegory that comes close to saying a few things and ultimately says nothing at all. it will age poorly.
I didn’t hate shape of water, but it just wasn’t anything truly special. Feel like it will have no longevity.
Comedy Central has been running a Key & Peele marathon the whole time the Oscars were on. I choose to believe this was not a coincidence.
Saoirse Ronan deserved best actress. I mean i didn’t see 3 Billboards...but Soarse is incredible in Lady Bird. And i would have been fine with Nolan or Gerwig for best director
The Shape of Water was my favorite until I saw Get Out, so I'm not sad about that win at all. I just wish Lady Bird had won something.
Really enjoyed TSoW, but I'm still very much whelmed given the better choices Very happy for del Toro, regardless
