Actually really happy with these. Cool Things Jordan, PTA and Greta getting Directing nods - Had low expectations and was super happy with all five nominees Daniel Kaluuya getting in, and Franco not Sufjan getting a nod for CMBYN's song Remember Me getting nominated for Best Song Jonny Greenwood getting a nod for Phantom Thread The Shape of Water's score getting a nod The Big Sick in Original Screenplay Baby Driver getting three technical nominations Blade Runner 2049 getting a BUNCH of technical nominations Disappointing Things Tiffany Haddish not getting a nod for Girls Trip Michael Stuhlbarg and Armie Hammer not getting nods for CMBYN
Need to see Dunkirk, Darkest Hour, Shape of Water and the Post in terms of BP. Not looking forward to Darkest Hour at all
I feel like this happens every year lol we always think we have them figured out and they pull a fast one
Christopher Plummer got in for his patch job in All The Money In The World, and nothing more, so the fact that he stole Armie’s nomination is real annoying.
Still a lot I need to see, but things I saw and liked did really well. Would be very very happy to see Get Out or Phantom Thread take the big one.
Everyone talking about how there’s been no progress and now look what’s happened. Again, though, we need to praise them for this but still continue holding them accountable in the future. We still have two whole acting categories with all-white nominees, after all.
The only BP nominees I still have to see are Darkest Hour and Phantom Thread, both of which I can probably knock out this weekend.
especially when like, why are we rewarding Ridley Scott when his original mistake was casting Spacey in the first place!!!!
I think The Shape of Water got the most nominations, so combined with its PGA win I suppose that’s the frontrunner now.
Denzel with his 8th (!) nomination becomes the most nominated African-American actor in Academy history!!!!
they'd been an open secret in Hollywood for decades tho regardless Plummer nomination is woooooooooof
Also poor Jessica Chastain and Michelle Williams They along with Amy Adams and Michael Shannon will never get that damn statue
i'm still mad amy adams lost for the master anyway this is a mostly surprisingly decent list of nominations - love the get out representation, way more for phantom thread than i thought there'd be, some progress on the diversity front, armie snub sucks but hey, the academy usually fucks up way more than this so it's still a minor victory overall.
pretty pleased with everything. best director is stacked. phantom thread got way more recognition than i expected. would have liked more blade runner acknowledgment but five technical nods isn’t bad
