If Billboards wins screenplay I'm going to be so mad, other than that I welcome our Billboards overlords whatever nothing matters Every other one being by a woman /POC is rad though
So I picked 8 which all became nominees but Phantom Thread ended up slipping in. I considered adding it but felt it wasn't getting much buzz leading up to awards. I'm happy that a lot of movies I loved got nominated even though most likely my top picks won't win.
Directing: Paul Thomas Anderson, Phantom Thread Guillermo del Toro, The Shape of Water Greta Gerwig, Lady Bird Christopher Nolan, Dunkirk Jordan Peele, Get Out ^This makes me really happy
best relative surprises for me: Rachel Morrison!!!!!! MANVILLE!!!!!!!!!! Denzel and Kaluuya!!!!!! Peele and Gerwig!!!!!!!!!! PTA for directing!!!!!!!
Also, this is the first time I've seen all BP nominees before they're announced, normally I can't even see them all by the day of the ceremony.
The most diverse Best Director field ever. Daniel Kaluuya getting in for Best Actor. The Big Sick getting in for Best Original Screenplay. Phantom Thread with a way stronger showing than I expected. This is awesome.
Very happy that Phantom Thread had a bigger showing than expected! Sad that The Big Sick and The Florida Project were mostly ignored. Also Michael Stuhlbarg for CMBYN. The Academy really nailed the Directors nominations though. What a stacked category.
Logan squeezing into best adapted screenplay makes me happy. Truly think that movie deserves more than it's gotten this year. Seen 2/3 of the BP noms thanks to MoviePass. That little card really does change movie habits quite nicely.
