This is easily the most overall good list od nominees in a while. Even The ones I didn’t love (darkest hour, 3 billboards) have good things to say about them.
Just curious (and I’ll answer my own question Monday once I’ve seen all nine; currently at 7), if you had to reduce the BP field to 5 like all other fields, which would get cut for you?
for me it'd be easy. Dunkirk, Phantom, Get Out, Lady Bird, shape of water (i havent seen call me; if that proved to be great then i'd have a tough time getting rid of one...id probably get rid of shape of water personally)
Although if we had just five BP nominees I’m pretty sure CMBYN would’ve been left in the dark for shape of Water...and honestly I don’t think 3 billboards gets in
well i dont think thats particuarly true. While forum.chorus.fm seems to hate 3 billboards, they are probably the overwhelming front runner to win it all
Of the three I've seen: The Shape of Water > Phantom Thread > Lady Bird. I'm hoping to see Get Out and Call Me by Your Name within the next few weeks. I'm kind of meh towards Dunkirk and The Post because they look like typical Oscar bait, but I have a MoviePass, so I might end up seeing them eventually. I have absolutely no interest in seeing Darkest Hour or Three Billboards.
Lady Bird Call Me By Your Name Get Out Dunkirk The Shape Of Water Last slot was very close between Shape and Phantom, but having these weird genre films nominated is something I'm a big fan of!
I just have been struggling with where to rank it, or whether to rank it at all, because of Affleck's involvement. I did think it was great, though.
I remember defending Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson in 2008-2010, saying how unfair everyone was to them. No one listened to me. I’m just glad they’re out there being brilliant and doing what they do in independent cinema.
yeah it's unfair to judge someone's acting based on a movie like Twilight, I mean Dakota Johnson is great in A Bigger Splash but I don't think anyone can act well in 50 Shades
