You said it AFTER my original comment, your original comment only said you were upset that the streak ended, which was my issue. I truthfully couldn't care less who won that award, but wanting a streak of non whites, instead of just a streak of the best directors is absurd...

 

Do I really need to go through the thread and internet and show how non-nuanced people are unless they movies they want to win win? Cause I don't really wanna. But it's funny how much some people hated the Oscars until the movie they liked won and then flipped so fast. If it wasn't you, not sure why you'd need to point that out....cool no need to respond.

 

First of all, I never said Moonlight was my favorite film of the year. Second of all, and seriously please understand me when I say this, you both are making fools of yourself right now. I said Moonlight was the best film and I said that Jenkins was the best director. THE FACT THAT IT CENTERS ON THE STORY OF A DOUBLE-MARGINALIZED PERSON IS A GREAT THING BECAUSE IT PROMOTES DIVERSITY AND ALLOWS FOR UNDERREPRESENTED NARRATIVES AND EXPERIENCES TO HAVE TIME IN THE SPOTLIGHT.

Do not @ me again with more of this just trying to start a fight because I dared to suggest that it's a good thing when deserving people of color are recognized by the Oscars.

 

You clearly haven't been following this thread at all, because I've said many times herein that Jenkins deserved Best Director over the rest of the field. Plus, I said that after your original comment in an effort to explain to you what I meant by my own comment, not to try to cover my ass. Also, see my response to @a nice person above.

I'll proudly say that the Oscars still suck but I'm hype as hell for Moonlight to win so more people can see it

 

C'mon, you're being obtuse. It's very clear that he's concerned with representation in the award, which isn't mutually exclusive with "best director".

You're right, I haven't read your comments, I jumped in this thread and yours was the first I saw. I have no problem with diversity, I have an issue with saying you want diversity by keeping whites, and only whites, out of it.

"We lost by the way" guy is even more of a jerk now because I just realized that everyone on stage is slowly informed that there was a mistake INCLUDING him and then he gives a speech and THEN tries to walk off with "we lost by the way, but you know"

If you want more diversity, you want less white representation.

 

What was it nominated for? I can't say anything good about it beside that I'm pounding drinks cause of it.

 

"Passengers" is where we stop giving Chris Pratt free passes for being on a great TV show and an enjoyable comic book movie.

Production Design and Original Score. It took Arrival's richly deserved Original Score nomination, for some reason.

 

Score and something else. Haven't seen it so I can't say anything about it anyway. But from the clips they played it just sounded very spacey and ambient.

Edit: looks like others helped me out there. I honestly couldn't remember the other nomination.

 

He clarified his stance in subsequent posts. No need to act like said posts are irrelevant, and didn't address your initial concern...unless you're just chomping at the bit to create some sort of reverse racism narrative.

 

Emma Stone is still cool in my book.
