He really did I enjoyed the winners and the speeches. And I enjoyed the opening sketch. But besides that didn't really like this ceremony. One of the worst produced and hosted award shows I have seen in awhile.
Yeah, I like Bargatze (going to see him in October, although I thought his last special was pretty bad) but he was painful to watch as host. I watched his Kimmel interview last week where he talked about doing this, and I thought even then it was a dumb bit and didn't think he'd really follow through with that, and then to keep it going as if it was quite literally the only joke he wrote for an entire 3-hour ceremony was incredibly lazy and in poor taste. He did tell Kimmel that he was in Denver all weekend for 3 or 4 shows, and even Kimmel was like - 'aren't you gonna rehearse?' And now seeing the final product, it's almost as if he didn't put any time into doing the show or even go over anything with writers/producers beforehand.
Also the production too. Way too many awkward shots of the celebrities in the audience looking bored/annoyed. Like Ben Stiller looked straight up mad when JB Smoothe tried go include him in that bit lol All the big emphasis on keeping the speeches short when they let the presenters go on way too long. Especially the Ray Romano/Brad Garrett thing, that went on forever.
I appreciate that is was mostly new fresh stuff that dominated the Emmys. Also a pretty weak year for big budget CGI event shows (besides Andor winning the one). The Studio, The Pitt, Adolescence.
