Ive followed this thread from the beginning. Still i am baffled when i read anyone posting about how they enjoy this song.
Yes. But still, this direction isnt where i ever expected this band would go. I respect change and growth from musicians and this bands ability to blend the influences of different genres. also some of my favorite moments are when matty yells and really sells an emotional vocal delivery. But whatever they were going for here straight up sounds like goats being slaughtered into a microphone. This song is like something matty should have wrote at 14 and is embarrassed by now. Idk man, i just really hope the rest of the album is less abstract and bizarre as a whole and i can forget People was ever a part of their discography. Edit: hmm not sure why it wont let me quote a post on mobile anymore
Again. Their last two lead singles were outliers on the album. It’s awesome because they aren’t just going the easy route of doing the song that was a hit previously.
Yeah, idk I don’t hear that at all. Love how Matty sounds on the song (especially live), and hope there’s at least one more heavy moment on the record.
It sounds to me like they’re wandering into a blur phase w a spritz of like the the future of the left n mcclusky (edited cuz i felt like i was being snarky sorry world)
I mean, to me, this song is so far from abstract. In message and delivery. It’s one of the most succinct and direct pieces of music they’ve made.
when i said abstract i meant more in terms of their style and whats expected from them. my bad, im not great at articulating my thoughts. i have so many about this song, ive just been talking in a stream of consciousness.
Loved seeing Stephen Fry comment on that and refer to him as ‘beneath contempt’. The exposure is everything, and yes, while touring obviously requires a great deal of travelling, it’s using the platform for good and reaches people worldwide. They have literally millions of fans. What they say and do has an impact, and the fact they’re choosing to spread a positive message rather than solely indulge in themselves is brilliant. What a ridiculously pedantic mindset he has. And what’s more frustrating is that they’ve literally covered every one of his points in that recent NME interview.
Interesting tidbit: It might be the last version of ‘The 1975’, if ‘Notes…’ closes The 1975’s ‘Music For Cars’ era, as you’ve said it will. “Yeah, it very well might be but I’ve got something so fun up my sleeve after ‘Notes On A Conditional Form’ and I don’t know if it will start with ‘The 1975’.” ... Did everyone talk about this? I didn’t see?
I think it’s a British thing to always threaten you may break up. Coldplay has said they’re done after almost every album cycle.
I mean he specifically said that whatever they’d do moving forward might be under a different name. I don’t think he’d be referring to future album intros the way he does in that interview. Mentions having tricks up his sleeve. To me that implies something out of left field, different from the band. But that’s just what I read into it.
Not sure if it’s been discussed here but the vest in the video is getting some news coverage in the UK
