I've officially decided that People is in my top 3 favorite The 1975 songs.

It's lifting up the current generation of young people and telling today's adults to get the fuck off their backs because they need to be given a chance, and in the wider context of the song's focus (global instability and in particular climate change) it's a rallying call to not write them, us, the human race off yet.

With the climate change crises deadline looming over our head, everyone outside the bourgeoisie who invest in the oil, gas, and fracking industries for profit at the expense of the future of our planet, the rest of us know what our future entails if we do not take drastic action on climate change. We want the human race (people) to survive and live.

People like Greta Thunberg, David Hogg, and other young people have surprised us by taking on these giant issues that have plagued our society (climate change, gun control, etc) and have become leaders in the public discourse and advocating for action by our politicians.

These young people are going to be the most impacted by climate change, they're the ones who are going to have to deal with the consequences of our parents and grandparents inaction, and it's time for them to either fucking die or resign from office, where they've allowed the exponential increase in greenhouse gas emissions and other contributors to climate change for the sake of making a quick buck, to stop fucking with us, and let us solve these issues since they won't (not can't)
