I think they did way more to expand their sound and experiment with different genres on ILIWYS than a lot of folks give it credit for honestly. sure there are a couple songs that refine the "signature" 1975 sound of the S/T, but I think they're pretty few and far between all things considered and they spend a vast majority of the album's runtime playing with different genres and sounds. I can definitely see how the genre-hopping was maybe more overt on ABIIOR sure, almost to the point of pastiche in some instances imo, but for the most part they were dabbling in much of the same influences and extrapolating on a lot of things they'd already established on ILIWYS. I think they managed to push themselves in nearly as many different directions on that record, personally, while producing imo a pretty significantly more cohesive and cinematic record than they've made since. that quality was really what drew me to them/that record in the first place.
ILIWYS is def my fav and also one of my fav albums of all time. I also think it's their best produced record. George obvs knows what he's doing, but Crossey just added that extra level imo
ILIWYS is their best, and this one is inarguably uneven but has grown on me a lot. Honestly ABIIOR is by far my least favorite, I never got into it
Their first is easily my least listened to of theirs. I didn’t truly become a fan until I like it when you schleep.
Yeah interesting that there's no clear favorite, and everyone seems to feel really strongly about their personal one. Like for me ABI is very easily my favorite, but they're all great. I actually didn't even really click with the band until the second album, I heard the first album the year it came out and nothing stuck with me besides Sex but when I gave it a second chance after loving the second album it was like a switch was flipped and it grew on me like crazy too
Being that they're in the studio right now, you'd think chances would be pretty good (provided they don't take a break from recording for whatever reason) that we'd maybe get it sometime in the September-November timeframe
It would not be chorus dot fm if people didn't complain about the same thing for the upteenth time as if there's no other music they can occupy themselves with in the meantime
