Apparently I learned watching this video, Matty has a version of "Jesus Christ" of Phoebe singing the entire song, and he thinks he'll eventually release it in/with Mindshower somehow
AANndddddddd Matty reveals he's going to do a Tape Notes podcast for "If You're Too Shy", which should be amazing; if you haven't heard that podcast before, it's basically the host (who is also the guy in the video above) having an in-depth discussion with an artist or band about how they made a certain track or two, from beginning to finished product. Really cool stuff
"That's what I love about pop music like that, it doesn't care; that's what I'm talking about when making beautiful pop music. It feels way more subversive than 'People'"
He tries explaining the meaning of "Bagsy Not In Net", but it still doesn't make full sense to me as an American
Matty talking about being reluctant about sharing forthright opinions in that video, like... Dude, outside of your songs, you actually kinda infamously do that a lot, which is a problem people rightly have w/ you, lol. How can you be so meta & self-referential, yet so bad at real self-awareness?
I feel like If You're Too Shy is kind of a basic 1975 pop song but it's kinda bland to compared to say Girls or She's American
I realized my biggest problem with Too Shy is that Matty lacks the same charisma he has live during the verses and ESPECIALLY the pre-choruses. Still a banger but I agree it pales in comparison to songs like She's American.
As much as I greatly prefer this “Music for Cars” era to any past era, I probably like “Girls” more than “If You’re Too Shy”?
I think the biggest thing I would change about the tracklisting is switching Shiny Collarbone and Having No Head? Besides that missed opportunity there's nothing I can think of changing now
If you've ever wanted your own 1975-themed neon sign of some kind, via an Instagram ad I found this site: All Products
Showed my bud a handful of tunes from this the other day. He's never liked The 1975 and has had to listen to quite a bit of them through hanging out with me, but he actually really enjoys some tracks on here. He thinks What Should I Say is their best song and they should make more just like it ahahaha
