It's really not a single in the traditional sense though - I think they just wanted to get it out there early due to its important message
after a few full listens my main criticism is the pacing of the first quarter of the album or so. having the intro, the end, and streaming in the first quarter of the album gives it a bit of an uneven feel and i would've liked to see those tracks spread out a bit more.
My take: Too many singles, should have released Too Shy, Me&You, and Tonight and that’s it. The pacing of the intros in the beginning is fine, they’re just fucking around it’s clear. Cut out a few of the filler interludes and you have close to a perfect album.
Gonna rank every song: If You're Too Shy (Let Me Know) I Think There's Something You Should Know Tonight (I Wish I Was Your Boy) Nothing Revealed / Everything Denied Playing On My Mind Roadkill Me & You Together Song Shiny Collarbone People What Should I Say Bagsy Not In Net Jesus Christ 2005 God Bless America The Birthday Party Yeah I Know Frail State of Mind Don't Worry Having No Head Then Because She Goes Guys The 1975 Streaming The End (Music For Cars)
This just isn't clicking with me yet. Brief Inquiry might actually be my favorite album of theirs as a whole, and this feels like a bit of a chaotic, bloated mess, even by their standards. There are a few tracks on here I absolutely love, but I think it'd still rank last for me even if I drastically reduced the runtime. But, who knows, I'll continue to give it listens in different settings and see how it goes.
I wasn’t just referring to you, but what did you mean by “it suffers from too many pre-release singles”?
thought this was hilarious but a pairing made in hell lmao, I truly hope I can dissociate the memory of this video from the song while listening
oh sorry, i have some people blocked and i thought that was aimed at me - totally my bad. mostly meant that the album loses some of its lustre because 8 of the songs were released ahead of time, some like a year beforehand (People, Greta). Think some of the complaints around sequencing might have been different if we hadn't heard People, FSOM or the Birthday Party beforehand but who knows. tl;dr the extended rollout is NOACF's biggest issue.
made a mindshower thing after I realized matty deleted his twitter, oh well. I like how this album art looks inverted, also made up a dumb alt title lol
I do enjoy most this, but it's the worst offender in terms of the biggest issue with every 1975 album. It's too damn long. Every album has like 3/4 filler songs and I honestly think this is about 40% filler. The songs that hit like If You're Too Shy or Me & You Together Song are fantastic though.
