This album's growing on me. The first quarter is certainly pretty jumbled and it doesn't really hit it's groove until JC2005 but from then on it's pretty good and more cohesive, imo, and I can't really think of any other way to sequence it that would make it any better. I think I like it the least out of the MFC releases but only because everything else is so stellar, that's not a knock on this album. The only thing that's holding it back for me is that there is no immediate standout song like in past releases, Too Shy is probably the closest, but this album is just far more subdued.
At this point the only thing that turns me off about this album is track 3 killing the momentum and the Greta intro being literally 5 minutes long.
Biggest issue still remains how yeah I know leads into then because. Both because it’s just not a good transition but I have the “oh wow yeah I know should have ended like 2 minutes ago already” juxtaposed by “aw shit then should be two minutes longer” lol
Yeah I Know is one of my favorites Actually I'm just gonna rank every song just to start chaos in this thread, this is all subject to change but rn I'm feeling this: People I think there's something you should know Tooshy What should I say nothing revealed Tonight I wish I was your boy frail state o mind guys roadkill yeah I know streaming and birthday party meand you shiny collarbone playing on my mind having no head bagsby not in net then before she goes Jesus Christ don't worry the end The 1975
my opinion on this record has been changing so much from day to day but right now: the birthday party frail state of mind (despite not caring for it when it was released) yeah i know i think there's something you should know people there because she goes if you're too shy me and you together song (funny enough, this was one of my favorite 1975 singles in a while, but for some reason i'm not as excited about it in context of the record. still love it though) don't worry bagsy not in net guys jesus christ what should i say shiny collarbone nothing revealed playing on my mind guys tonight the end having no head the 1975 streaming
the birthday party probably isn't my ACTUAL favorite song on here, but it's the one that affects me the most on an emotional level. for whatever reason, it's one of their songs that just really stirs something in me even if i couldn't really tell you why.
tweeted this to no engagement lmao but after a little while this is how I feel Edit: I still fucking LOVE this record but that's my lil critique hahaha
Moving/cutting The End I get but I will never understand cutting streaming. It leads into birthday party so wonderfully
it’s a 1:30 intro with elements of things they’ve done better before I don’t see why it’s such a big deal that’s my 2 cents!!
yeah it's one of those odd takes from someone whose music taste usually aligns with mine, so i try to make sense of it even if it is, indeed, nonsense lol i'll just let it slide as "yeah this one's not for you, that's okay" i'm still getting into the headspace required to fully appreciate this, the first five song stretch in particular is a bit clunky/distracting - not the songs themselves but the sequencing. other than that i lose myself in the remaining 60 minutes and they just go by in the blink of an eye. "tonight (i wish i was your boy)" might be my current favorite. makes me long for love like i haven't in years
So this is kinda dumb, but I’m on furlough so I have a lot of free time on my hands. I compiled the setlists from every time I’ve seen The 1975 (21 times) and totaled up the number of times I’ve seen each song. Dropbox - The1975 Setlist Project.xlsx - Simplify your life Chocolate, Sex, Somebody Else, and The Sound are the only songs that were played at every single show I went to. She’s American is the next highest at 18 times, followed by Robbers at 17, and Love Me and A Change of Heart at 16 each. I think it’s interesting to see the progression of sets throughout the years, including the most common non-single songs as well as how infrequently some other tracks are played live. I find it funny when I see people saying they want certain songs added back to the set when those are some of the ones that get played pretty frequently.
