Thinking about ABI and how it sounds like the 1975 trying to be the biggest band in the world. Probably what I love about it.
Until I heard roadkill’s callback to robbers I always thought it was “if you never read you’ll never grow” lol
If nothing else I view the two paired because of that. One is arena/we are taking over and the other is it’s antithesis.
Really enjoying this record. Really dug that Apple Music video on the making of the album, especially Matty conveying the sequence with all of the TV's, loved that (like an exhibit at the Tate or something lol). Also, I have to respectfully disagree with takes suggesting Streaming into The Birthday Party is too long of a sequence. When the guitar lick kicks in to start TBP, I legit tear up.
I think they've done an amazing job experimenting with a bunch of different sounds on the last two albums but those early EP songs always felt like they created their own sound. Some very cool stuff.
If id be ok with no new 1975 songs so a while, let them branch out with other endeavors, then a new album in 5 or so years. They’re 10000% not leaving though
I think they’ll tour Notes 2021 and now a bit into 2022 due to the postponements, take some time off but I think we have a new album end of 2023 or early 2024
I kinda hope this is it for a while tbh. Let everyone sit with the full discography, get those solo albums out, put out DLID material, and let people get hungry.
It's going to be under, he did a radio interview a few weeks ago where he said the band was "gearing up for our next record" or something to that effect, since they can't play shows for a while. The whole "this is our last album for a while" idea was while he was making Notes, but things have changed now. On the other hand, Matty is only right about his band's plans like 25% of the time so who's to say
For a moment ABI was going to be the last 1975 album. They’ll be back, I’d guess 3-4 years. But they’ll announce it in 2 years haha.
