About halfway through after only having heard People and Too Shy... it’s interesting. Some stuff I’m loving, some stuff I’m not super hot on
Wowww... the way the first bit of Having No Head just melts into full on electronics... that was something.
I haven’t heard Guys yet and I thought it would be some slow acoustic song for some reason? But this shit is hitting me
I keep going back to I Think There's Something You Should Know. That song isn't something I knew I needed from them.
One of my best friends really thought they were going to make an in your face punk record and I flat out told him that won't be the case. At least not this time around. They're notorious for releasing really the only "rocker" as the first single.
Haha it's like 45 seconds total of them in the studio making the album and 11 minutes of Matty playing a philosopher
I’m also an Apple Music guy, but got Spotify just for the month when they started doing the weekly listening parties. In line with those, the new record has captions/commentary for each song from Matty along with behind the scenes photos and what not. EDIT: There’s also some funky graphics and audio of Matty that interrupt the album, 4 to be exact. “AN ETHICAL DILEMMA” after The End (Music For Cars), “EVERYTHING IS ABOUT INTENT” after The Birthday Party, “JUST PART OF HUMAN CONSCIOUSNESS“ after Then Because She Goes, and “ONLINE INTIMACY” after Shiny Collarbone.
Yeah, idk about this one. Gonna listen more before I try to put too many thoughts down. Some of their best songs are here, but I’m really just not sure this thing works as a cohesive album.
I’ll be the first to admit I was nervous going into this album since none of the singles really did it for me combined with the opinions on the Internet since the leak dropped. That said - I can breathe a sigh of relief as I think this record is just a beautiful, exquisite, unique mess. I say that mostly as a compliment. The 1975 have always had grade a production but holy shit. Each track on this album was such an aural treat because of the curveballs and it keeps you guessing. There’s such massive stylistic swinging for the fence on this record that i can’t see all 22 tracks working for anyone but I think that’s perfectly okay. This is their “throw everything at the wall and let’s see what sticks” album. I’ve only just listened to this record in its entirety but the tracks that jumped out at me most were What Should I Say, I Think There’s Something You Should Know, Nothing Revealed, Tonight. Stoked to go back and read the last several pages now that I have a frame of reference.
