Deluxe Apple Music Edition also has a track-by-track breakdown by Matty in the album bio. At least a paragraph per song. About to dive in.
Oh haha, I listened as soon as it leaked. I’m just gonna dive in again with Matty’s descriptions this time.
Up to The Birthday Party. I already liked the singles but wow this is the perfect example of songs sounding better in context
Weirdly, Jesus Christ has somehow become one of my favorite songs on the record. It does such a great job of capturing the atmosphere of mid-2000's rural America and the song's attitude of quiet discontent just resonates so deeply with me, I love it.
My response to this is very late, but wanted to make sure you knew how right this take is haha. Matty talks about going back to the band’s roots in the Apple Music Deluxe Edition album description and previously said to NME over a year ago: “I think that bands when they get to a stage that maybe we’re in they wanna kind of graduate into being like a massive rock band whereas we wanna graduate like into being a small emo band, if you know what I mean". The back cover of the physical record also gives me that vibe pretty heavily.
I can't wait to hear more of what people think. I'm going to dive into the new album from The Airborne Toxic Event right now, which also came out at midnight.
