I feel like I'd really enjoy Tonight drinking outside while it's nice out, but on the context of the album I'm not super into it.
I feel like I'm actually enjoying the tracks that kinda washed over me the first time more than the straightforward ones on this listen. Roadkill & Tonight don't do that much for me
Tonight is the one I find myself loving more and more every listen. Probably my favourite after FSOM and M&Y.
The one that is really not clicking yet is Then Because She Goes. Maybe cause I don't have the lyrics? Idk it is like mixing 2 styles and its not really working yet. It's really short and doesn't add styles. It comes across as it all just thrown in a pot. Tonight is the fuckin jam for me, though.
That's another one I'm really loving the more I listen to it. Honestly I'm loving like 85% of the album at this point.
yeah idk I love all those songs but there’s more on here that’s really wowing me. I feel like we def seek different things in this band and that’s really cool. imo It’s Not Living is great but I still think they’d done that particular sound slightly better with She’s American and I think If You’re Too Shy is how the culmination of that particular sound.
re: "Too Shy" vs. "It's Not Living" I think the former has a stronger chorus and is in a better spot of matty's vocal register I do wish "Shy" had another chorus w Matty really going for it on the vocals tho love both songs ofc
for awhile I thought "She's American" was a better "Settle Down" but now I've gone back on that opinion
Okay so I know the pitched down vocal segment in everything revealed nothing denied is probably matty still right? I just love to picture it as Ross leaning into the mic to do some rapping
Some of the house-influenced stuff on here makes me wish Bloc Party was still making good music in this vein.
I think my take is that I'd put She's American at the bottom of the four and that should be an indication that they have set the bar for this sound extremely high
Eh, they're all very well written bombastic pop songs, I just think they tap into something on "It's Not Living" that is special. "Too Shy" is the closest in the style, I wouldn't really group "She's American" or "Settle Down" with those two
Yeah I don’t see She’s American and Settle Down being put into that box. Too Shy is SO similar to the sound and vibe they went with in It’s Not Living. The other two aren’t, other than being uptempo pop songs.
This is going to be the one album of theirs I need time to digest. There’s just so much going on. On first listen “What Should I Say” is a favorite. Can’t wait to roll a zoot and listen fully tonight.
