I'm not gonna read all 20+ pages that I missed in here, but on first listen I quite enjoy this overall. WAY more subdued and lowkey than I expected, but that's not really a bad thing. I should have expected it after all the pre-release singles, but People definitely threw it off lol. Not a ton specifically stood out on first listen that I hadn't heard before, mostly because it's so long and the songs I already knew kinda stood out first, but I am sure subsequent listens will reveal more that I dig.
Jamie mentioned that they're still planning on doing a double album boxset for "Music For Cars" I hope they throw in demos and more songs. That'd be really cool.
Excited to spin this in a bit - regardless of their antics (which have existed at least since 2016 Lol) the music is great and ultimately that’s all that matters
The bridge on roadkill tho !!! This album is a journey I wish I didn’t listen to the singles so much hah... whichever member it was that didn’t listen to any of them.. I’m trying to know what your thoughts are!
I really want to order the vinyl, but I’m trying to decide if I should wait for a box set that might never happen knowing this band
I really like a lot of this and I'm hoping new things stick out as I keep relistening. I've listened to it twice through today, but over the course of like 8 hours lol
I can't describe why, but Having No Head feels very "final". Like, it feels like the end of this era moreso than any other track on the record. Almost like, out of all the massive instrumentals, this is George's magnum opus. Also, it's quickly becoming my favorite instrumental they've ever done.
Have only listened once (so disregard everything I say if you want) but I liked parts of the record a lot and parts seemed to really drag. I'm definitely glad I didn't really listen to the singles because the tracks that jumped out at me the most were all released as singles. The best songs on this already feel like they could go toe-to-toe with the best songs in the band's catalog up to this point, but I'm not sure if this fits together as well as Brief Inquiry did (which is my favorite of theirs). Sure I've only listened once and hopefully my impression changes with subsequent listens but their last record grabbed me first listen in a way this one didn't. Also I really really don't like Matty's rap-sing thing he does on a few songs but maybe I'll get used to it.
I think ABIIOR is a great album, but I can already tell that Notes holds my attention better, even though it’s longer and there’s more going on. With ABIIOR I tend to lose interest during Be My Mistake, then again during Man Who Married A Robot, and sort of into Inside Your Mind, too, although I’ve been coming around on that one lately. Notes, though, doesn’t seem to have anything I want to skip like that.
I never revisit Notes, might be my own fault for burning a whole in all of the singles way before the album came out. It's a very immediate reaction but i enjoyed this way more than Notes on first listen.
Yeah I agree, I think it's all about the pacing. There's more of a mixture throughout instead of ABIIOR where the back half was much more subdued
ABI definitely drags at parts but nowhere near this imo. Wild to see it ranked in the bottom half of their discography on here
got the album queued up, patiently waiting for my best friend to get off work so we can press play at the same time so excited
