I mean they’re different but they’re not *that* different. My point is it’s a bit ridiculous to imply that I should reserve judgement on a song I’ve heard played live that I didn’t like because it MIGHT change dramatically. Jesus didn’t resonate with me at all, sadly. One of the few songs this band has ever made that I wasn’t instantly in love with.
I don’t think anybody’s saying you should have to like the song. I just feel like it’s a general consensus around here that a live debut of a song is not enough of an indication of the finished product to judge “the song” as a whole, in whatever future form it ends up taking. And suggesting it be cut from an album that we also haven’t heard any of, is just kind of a heightened version of that judgment.
Yeah, I'm not saying you can't like a song. I'm not voicing any opinions on that part of what other users here are telling you. I actually agree that this song does not strike me as hard and fast as the others but they do also have the ability to change it up however it's usually the other way round. We hear the original first before the acoustic. We won't know until when/if we get the full track but given the acoustic I doubt my opinion will change on this one, which is a shame but nothing is flawless.
Fair, but when it’s the lyrics I don’t enjoy in particular then regardless of how different it could well be, I’m always not going to like them. I have higher hopes for this album than any of the previous, given Matty and Jamie’s insistence it sounds akin to Drive Like I Do/the EPs prior to the debut. I adored the sound of the EPs, and if it’s anything reminiscent of that, I’ll be in love with it. Jesus doesn’t really gel with that or me at all, so a part of me wants it to be this standalone release as part of an EP or something prior to the album.
For a band with this level of production it’s highly unusual to play unfinished songs live. This is the song.
Any news on the potential US tour this fall? I just realized their North American dates wrapped up a few weeks ago, so this could be announced soon.
Right but the attitude here as of late can seem a bit...any complaint you have about the band isn’t legitimate as it doesn’t echo everybody else’s glowing praise. I’ve loved this band since their first EPs. It doesn’t mean they can do no wrong and always please every fan. I don’t particularly enjoy ILIWYS, and ABIIOR hasn’t bowled me over the way I wanted it to. I still love the band. It isn’t weird or unreasonable that I don’t like the song or the lyrics. Whether the song is finished or not - the lyrics would need a substantial overhaul for me to enjoy it. That isn’t going to happen. Therefore I personally, in my opinion, would rather not see it on the upcoming record.
I deleted my post before you posted your response, sorry. I still think it's unfair to not like a performance of an unfinished song enough to not want it on the album, but I don't actually want to argue with anyone about it, heh.
Either way, I’m sat in a staffroom in a Japanese school with no classes to teach all day, starving and falling asleep because I drove 6 hours during the night to drop my sick girlfriend off back home. I’m ready to put my head through a wall, so my posts today are guaranteed to be somewhat argumentative at the very least. My apologies!
RyanRyan and I backed this thread away from the cliff that it was marching towards. Praise be to us. Jesus Christ 2005.
They both played at a festival in Norway last weekend. The Streets closed out the night, and 1975 played right before them. Really cool that he was standing there like 10 feet in front of us.
He had stopped for quite a few years, did an anniversary tour a few years back and has been active again ever since then
Matty said in an interview that they have a song coming out in August but they're not going back to finish the album until October.
