It’s funny cause this might be their most ambitious/sprawling collection but it all feels very low key and chill to me.

At the end of Nothing Revealed? Thought that was him ripping on the guitar with heavy distortion. Didn’t sound like a sax imo

 

Shiny might be the most random ass thing they’ve done lol

 

And the transition into the next slow song is another sequencing meh

 

Shiny makes me feel like I’m back in Brooklyn in a dance club with 10 other people at 4am, faded as fuck, finally realizing I need to go the fuck home

I say that as fondly as I possibly can. Many fun times at that hour, there’s a certain fun liberation with no pretense of “coolness”

 

Honestly I think I need to stop listening to singles before releases because I feel like this album would absolutely blow me away had I not repeatedly overplayed the singles and jumped to the new songs. Kinda sucks that for the most part, the songs I’ve already heard are my favourite. As a whole it’s brilliant but it’s hard to listen like that for me having already heard a lot of it.

Also goddamn that ‘hit that shit’ stuff dampens what’s actually a wicked song.

Mixed feelings about it all. Some of the songs are my absolute favourite they’ve ever done. But the interludes I’m not bothered by and in all likelihood will skip, and the more extreme/weird electronic stuff I’m almost repulsed by haha. Exaggerating but definitely will avoid that.

Also it sucks to see everyone here getting so excited about the weirder stuff and not being able to join in haha. Looks like I’ll be cherry-picking with this one.

They’re really nailing the slower, acoustic songs this time around. Be My Mistake was a such distracting song, but the slower ones here are varied and very pretty

 

Yeah this is all solid stuff (minus a couple of oddities) but it’s readily apparent at track 18 that this is my least fave of the records on first listen - nowhere near the firepower of the last two records in the form of sure fire hits

 

It’s just so weird to me that they’ve made an album with some of my new favourites and some of my absolute least haha.
