Liking Yeah I Know but could’ve done without the ‘hit that shit go hit that shit’ going on in the background

 

The last 2 albums hit me like bricks the first time I heard them. I’m kinda scared lol

 

Just starting this, on the thrid track "The End" now-- wish me luck y'all

 

“I took shit for being quiet during the election - I’m just a busy guy” lol. Can’t believe they were expected to say something like musicians aren’t politicians stop treating them like they have all the answers

 

I'm on Frail State of Mind now, really odd way to start an album, ha. One of the things I've been most looking forward to about getting this album is finally being able to listen to this song more. I love it so much.

 

'I Think There's Something You Should Know' would've been a great single

 

I like it a lot on first listen. I guess that's not surprising given my general attitude toward the band, but they continue to surprise me and I couldn't stop smiling the whole time.

Favorite tracks: Tonight (I Wish I Was Your Boy), What Should I Say, Nothing Revealed/Everything Denied, The Birthday Party, If You're Too Shy (Let Me Know)

Also, the single choices were poor. Greta, People, JC2005 and Guys all should have been kept. They should have dropped Tonight or What Should I Say instead and that's it.

 

Nothing Revealed / Everything Denied is like an even better Sincerity is Scary, which I didn't think was possible. This song man...

 

Listening for the first time with headphones. Just listened before on my Sonos 5.1 setup. Shit is so cash both ways.

I love Matty's lyrics, they're filled with just the right amount of humour and heart.

 

“Don’t fuck with your poor fans, you need the rich ones to expand your floor plan” hahahahahahha

 

"Tonight (I Wish I Was Your Boy)" is the one I'm most into so far of the non singles, really cool song.

 

Not sure about "Shiny Collarbone" on first listen lol.

 

"Yeah I Know" is "Petrichor"'s shiftier younger brother that I never knew I needed

 

Having No Head is the one. Trust.

this is wild stuff, "Then Because She Goes" is like one of Blur's noisy s/t songs and "Roadkill" almost sounds like Big Thief

 

Ok it’s 430am and I’m getting up to have coffee and listen to this

IM SO FUCKING PUMPED

 

Way too soon for a verdict but on first listen I think I might like this more than ABIIOR. The back half is exactly what I was hoping for when they started hyping the album. It doesn't feel very cohesive to me right now but I think over-playing the singles (which are mostly in the first half) is probably to blame for that. 'I Think There's Something You Should Know' is quickly breaking into my top five.

overall didn't wow me quite like the last two did. the singles (M&YT, Frail, People, Too Shy) are my favourites by a fair bit and the flow doesn't feel quite as natural to me. "Shiny Collarbone" might end up being my least favourite song by them too.

There's still a lot I really like though and I think the songs that didn't really stand out much will probably be ones that grow on me over time.
