no one is saying your opinion is trash? you made your point and it generated conversation. also, i get your point with these lyrics but the smoke in his eye line might be a throw back to fallingforyou which is an interesting call back don't want to dog pile on you, just came here to say that steven hyden is an annoying and his taste tends to skew towards rockism
Is it so bad for an artist to put a song that is for them on a release? Taylor Swift does it all the time.
And that’s fine! But it’s just where we disagree - I think it’s perfect. It’s simple. It’s kind. It’s a thank you to his band mates and an homage to friendship. Which, at the end of the day, is what drives the entire band. It’s short and sweet, not a bunch of bells and whistles - I think it does exactly what they wanted it to.
My hype could not be higher for this thing to drop. I know it’s likely that we get it in the next few days, but I just keep refreshing feeds and whatnot to see if anything has changed.
My only problem w/ the song is that Charli's new song "c2.0" is a better "I miss hugging the homies" anthem. Other than that, it's a solid feel good song that should close the album out quite nicely. Definitely a better way to close out an album in May 2020 than another "I Always Wanna Die (Sometimes)," lol; gimme that sentimentality.
I started playing the new song and then I realized it’s the last track and turned it off 20 seconds in. I can wait a week.
on the idea of it being a "single" - i get that it's not necessarily aimed at radio but i do think it's an odd one to put out there for promotion. clearly they are signalling the end of an era (especially if matty and george have solo albums coming/DLID maybe being back in the mix), but i think the song wouldve hit a little harder in the context of the album.
new invu with Billboard - he discusses the Pinegrove line The 1975 Interview on 'Notes on a Conditional Form'
He seems like the kinda guy that idolizes the accidental underground genius and vilifies the people who make calculated decisions
I feel really good about not knowing anything about him, or being plugged into music criticism almost at all these days. But, still, Matty is pretty often annoying, lol. Both the snippet from that tweet, & that interview, remind me of that fact. Some of those annoying characteristics do, I think, contribute to what makes a lot of their stuff so good to me, but like, I also would hate to hang out w/ him.
Something I should add to this... That last sentence feels too much a defense of being annoying when you're a good artist, which let's be real, is a lame trope, lol. Dude could totally find a way to be less annoying while still having the more interesting aspects of himself. But, that's a well worn topic, & I'm still super hyped for this album, so whatever.
I’ve read enough and seen enough of his interviews where I know he means well. He just loves to put his foot in his mouth.
I can see that. I can also see him being the worst little shit ever as well. We just have more evidence to the latter.
