Almost the exact same as me, I liked the singles from the first two albums but could never get into the full things, but then with the third one I just all of a sudden absolutely loved it, then went back and loved the first two cover to cover. Like a switch flipped
I saw the facedown EP on itleaked, something about it (maybe their name or the artwork) drew me in to download it, I'd never heard of them before, I heard The City and was hooked, I think they had around 200 likes on facebook at that point too.
I've noticed a trend of this band "clicking" for people. Freshman year of high school, I was shown Sex, fell in love with it yet could not stand Chocolate and stopped checking them out cause when I was 14 and angry I listened to yelly shouty bro guitar music grrr. About 4 months later, UGH! came out and long story short I've spent much more time and energy listening to this band than any of that bullshit lol
I really liked Sex when I first heard it in like summer 2013, and I remember being very stoked for the record but only ever half listening to it once or twice and deciding “nothing was as good as Sex” and never really revisited it. the lead up to ILIWYS I was pretty immediately intrigued from a distance when they changed their aesthetic and stuff and then when Love Me dropped I heard just the intro and had no idea what to make of it. hearing UGH! when it premiered was what finally sealed the deal for me tho. I heard that song and I was absolutely floored and their grip on me has only tightened since then to the point they’re easily my favorite band.
I really hope they actually do make a pop rock Sex like album at some point. Even if it's just a short, quick, 10 track album.
I want a visual EP/LP akin to "How to Draw"; "I Like It when you sleep...."; "Please Be Naked" ; "Lostmyhead" Write the music and then throw them and whatever set up on a stage and hit record.
The EPs are so good. Haven't listened in a while, this is really taking me back. I used to throw them on to soundtrack my bike rides so they bring back some great summertime memories.
Sex EP was where i first learned about them. My girlfriend made me a pop socket with the Sex Ep cover on it. I was hooked with Sex, loved the first album. Initially when Love Me came out, i was like meh. Then, UGH! was released, i revisited Love Me and was like, "Hey, what the fuck is this band up to?" That's when i waited for each subsequent single to be released, watched live videos and all that.
