That fun upbeat song probably isn't called "Birthday Party" after all since that's been described as a "dusky, acoustic" song
The juxtaposition of Matty looking like he's in Minor Threat vs a song that sounds like it could've come out of the catalogue of Peter Gabriel or Tears for Fears is definitely something.
One hundred per cent was not emotionally ready to listen to Guys rn and made it about halfway and I am too choked up to finish it. They’re about to do it again, I’m so happy to be on board. Two more months, I can manage.
Both songs seem good, most interested by the intro to Shy, might be a holdover from Gokka, and is pretty off path for them Only thing I can say so far is that these songs seem more “grounded”, more so than the songs on ABI, where they’re dropping most “pretentiousness” that might have held potential fans at arms length. Downside to that is that none of the songs have swung for the fences thematically as effectively as something like Love it if we Made It.
Birthday Party could be incredible and i’ll be disappointed regardless because it’s not If You’re Too Shy. The amount of times I listened to the live She’s American before it was released is ungodly.
