Was supposed to go tonight and I had to make a very difficult decision to stay at work late I hate capitalism
That’s naff. I had to call off seeing them once because my ex cheated on me and she had the tickets. Like fuck was I gonna go with that trollop. Luckily we had tickets for two dates and I worked up the courage to go to hers and demand them and go alone to the next date
It just means something’s crap or boring. If you wanna dive deep into the origin, there’s talk of it originating in the gay community as meaning ‘not available for fucking’. But that seems ridiculous and if that was the origin then it certainly isn’t the intended meaning today. Hell, according to some sites, people used to say ‘naffing’ as in ‘oh god, not more naffing bad news’. Here it’s apparently saying it means go away? Which is absolutely not how it’s used in my experience.
Haha no problem. Long story short - British slang is ridiculous and a mess of contextual legwork. But it’s great fun.
British slang is wild, whenever I’m watching a premier league game stream and seeing the comments roll in I’m so confused
Lmao. Look into Cockney rhyming slang if language interests you. Some choice picks: Berk = c*nt - apparently it originates from Berkeley Hunt and that obviously rhymes... Pony and trap = crap. Richard the third = turd. Dog and bone = phone. Butcher’s hook = look - here you say “I’ll have a butcher’s” and it means “I’ll have a look.” Apples and pairs = stairs From my area, there’s a place called Cannock Chase. My dad always says “shoulda seen the look on his Cannock Chase!” which means ‘the look on his face’. My all-time favourite that I use daily is ‘brassic’. That means you’re broke. Brassic originates from ‘boracic lint’ which rhymes with ‘skint’ which means broke here.
It’s a language within a language. Suppose it’s the same with every language though! Everywhere has their own dialect and colloquialisms!
Three years ago I met Matty after the O2 show. Denise (his mum) took the photo. Free bar, I'm several glasses of wine deep and me and my friend are trying not to freak out.
Saw their final show of the decade last Friday, it rocked! First time seeing them and they blew me away.
Here's a "Being a 1975 fan, I think you'll like this band" recommendation - it's like a mix of The 1975, The Chain Gang of 1974, The Midnight, and Genesis
Still hoping for Laneway sideshows since they're not exclusive to the festival. The fact that it's only a month away has me concerned though...
Notes is definitely my top record of 2019. Even though it came out in May I still spin it regularly. At first I thought it was the perfect summer night record but it’s really great in the winter as well. Oh and I confirm it absolutely slaps after getting high and going for a walk.
What's the general consensus on The 1975 these days? I feel like people that I know, or even good friends, that were into them previously, just aren't as much anymore... It's a shame because People and FSOM have me as excited for the next record as I've been in years... probably since ILIWYS.
