New Swim Deep album came out a few weeks back. They supported 1975 a while back and are really underated
Anyone in Cali know of a December tour? I haven’t kept up with their schedule. My wife said she bought me tickets to see them in sac which I was thrilled about. Though now it’s looking like a festival....a very merry X Mas or something with all these other bands.....
Just looked it up and at least the other bands are good. Not a huge Head and the Heart fan but Local Natives is great and Catfish is fun.
Yeah I’ve only heard of Local Natives, and I’ve heard good things. Though would be much more excited if The 1975 was a headlining act
They come from my home town! Underrated wasn’t something I’d ever call them though. Before their first album they were overplayed AFFFFF and their kinda music was a dime a dozen - every single new band in Birmingham had that sound. Their debut was really kinda bland and then they changed their sound for the second for something that just...no thanks haha. Intrigued what the new album sounds like, but good grief were their fans dicks at the gigs. Literally beating the shit out of each other to their chill songs. also I’m pretty sure I saw the lead singer at a club called Snobs doing coke so that was wild
Just shows how lacking Birmingham has been in breakthrough bands that they were basically minor celebrities for a while Honey was an absolute banger though
This song is owning my life. Might be one of my fave singles by them. If this is the nighttime record sound I hope there’s a lot of this all over this record
I’ve listened to this song probably 5 times and it just doesn’t do anything for me. I don’t remember what it sounds like at all besides the vocal delivery being really similar to TOOTIME. Nothing else about it stuck with me.
Did my first stoned listen to Frail State Of Mind and can confirm it bangs. Fits well on my 2-step/UK garage playlist.
Jamie Oborne talks The 1975: ‘We still believe in albums!’ Nice little discussion from Jamie on their marketing philosophy. Interesting how formalized their asset creation and repurposing is, but it makes sense. Also kind of shocked that the Greta song was their single most-streamed day ever on DSPs.
The thought that anyone would ever NOT think that albums are a good thing... it doesn’t make sense to me. Doesn’t compute... Like I feel like the music “industry” side of things is kinda overthinking it a bit too much if they’ve reached that point...
Understanding the industry side of things is the key that makes the band as successful as they are. Jamie seems pretty well spoken and seems like he understands what the consumers want as well as how to curate a business model that allows them to be free of a lot of restraints of the music industry
Right and I’m saying kudos to The 1975 for still wanting to uphold the idea of albums and that sort of business model... Because you hear a lot about the industry pushing streaming and singles, and clicks clicks clicks... but it’s like man, if you like an artist, idk who you are, singles are nice and all... quick, easy... but people want the main event. It’s just how it is, and the industry at large almost seems to want to avoid it. And I guess in a sense, I get it... a lot of everyday people seem to only care about what’s hot, that new trending song, “auto-pilot music listeners” if you will... but to me it’s just such a shallow way to approach the music making process and the business side as well. It’s like, let’s not make what an artist may very well want to make, or write the kind of song (or collection of songs) they want, it’s gotta be THIS particular way because “clicks clicks clicks”... At that point, I’d argue that you’re starting to compromise the art form. Not that it’s wrong to want to sell 50 million records either... idk, I have complex feelings on it.
The album never died. Artists/labels just used it as their go to excuse because something or someone didn’t sell well. Everyone can agree that most popular music, whether it’s pop, rap, indie, etc is just here today, gone tomorrow. The artist might now be, but the music is. A song could be THE biggest hit, and then 2-3 years later, everyone’s like “oh I forgot about this song, it still slaps” History shows that popular artists can have amazing singles, but bad albums. Which eventually leads to people not wanting to buy the album, and that they would rather stream it or download it. I think Adele is a prime example that if the people think that the music is truly good, they will buy the album. 25 sold 2.433 million albums in 4 days in 2015. Which meant, yeah, it didn’t do that in the first day. But ultimately, it came out, people listened to it first to see if they liked it, and then they bought it.
It’s such a weird thing to me that people (that can) aren’t registered to vote. That was like the second thing I did when I turned 18. First was buying a lotto ticket.
First of all - fuck you, play antichrist. Second of all - I'll consider voting if you play antichrist.
uhhhhhhhhhh the whole singles over albums thing has been a thing since itunes launched in 2001 and gave people the option to purchase individual songs. it's hardly a new concept or idea.
