Also, and it's something I've noticed from people discussing how they are played on certain stations or the types of shows in the US in this thread as being like a "heard them fairly frequently on x radio station a lot with single x" or "they're playing this venue near me with capacity x" - it goes without saying that America is gargantuan in size compared to the UK so it's going to be different in terms of coverage or touring - but here they are just about the biggest band in the UK right now, I'd say. Their fanbase is HUGE and a lot of views, plays, whatever undoubtedly comes from hometurf too. They are the band here that everyone knows and is played on every radio/tv station, whether it's waking up for work at 7am and the morning show or driving home late at midnight and every type of radio station in between - they are there and adored more than almost any act I can think of across such a huge demographic both in terms of fandom and media outlets.

They'll headline festivals in 2019 post Music For Cars in the UK for sure, if not Glastonbury, definitely Reading and Leeds. They've already headlined Latitude over here.

  2. They're pretty huge in Australia as well. Their last show in Melbourne was at a 10,500 cap venue and it was full. Somebody Else got frequent plays on alt stations, and a long running soap on tv plays their music in the background at least once a week. Most people I've met between ages 16-25 know who they are and have probably seen them live. They could play Rod Laver Arena next and I wouldn't be surprised! ILIWYS got them a lot of new fans and MFC will too

I'll write you into all of my songs Supporter

For some reason I still don’t believe the album will end up being called Music for Cars.

But if the band gets bigger during this album cycle we might be approaching legacy act status and potential Rock and Roll HOF discussions

Didn’t they also say long before ILIWYS came out that it would be called that? I would love if they stuck with MFC

I’m not in this thread often enough so I don’t want anyone to think I’m not a huge fan but I do feel that this band’s success is skewed because of how few (new) rock acts are big right now. They’ve only been releasing music for about five years. Legacy status is jumping the gun imo and I feel like if there was more competition in the rock charts, the 1975 wouldn’t seem as big as they do. The only other rock band I can think of out there that’s currently popular and hasn’t been mainstream for 10+ years is twenty one pilots and they suck. Idk, I guess what I’m saying is music for cars would have to seriously outdo ILIWYS in terms of US charts before legacy status can even be considered and I don’t think that’s the band’s priority (and it shouldn’t be). Not saying I don’t see it happening for them, but I do think we’re at least two albums away from that point.

Agreed. I really like these guys but Rock and Roll Hof is a stretch.

they would have to continue being a band for 10 more years at least with two or three more albums that never waver in quality. If any band can do it it's them but we're far off from that convo

Saw this band for the first time 5 years ago yesterday.

Does anyone know where my life is going?

I would say Kasabian and Arctic Monkeys are bigger by quite a way.

However I think what you're saying will be true within three years.

I think Ksabian have veered off in terms of media fanbase. Particularly off the last album. The 1975 seem to cover a larger range of demographics, but Arctic Monkeys I'd agree with, it's just been a while since they've around I guess.

I thought it started out rough but ended really well. He played his best songs I think.

Yeah, he played pretty much what people would want, but I just didn't think it was very memorable.
