I think I'm in the minority of listeners who enjoys every song they've ever put out. To varying degrees, of course, but I haven't heard a song by them that I have no interest in listening to again. This album is no exception. I do really enjoy it on the few listens I've gotten in, but I will say I do miss the more electronic/explorative stuff they were doing like on Notes. There are lots of bands also making great music that sounds like this (BFIAFL) but there's not as many artists out there making music like "Frail State of Mind". So I'll be excited when they return to making music in that style. I think its nice that they've kind of repositioned the band's sound and focus and put together something shorter and more cohesive that they're (rightfully) proud of. But I don't really expect any less from them at this point.
I haven't heard this yet but I agree with most of this. I really hope they explore more of that "Frail State of Mind" sound at some point. That's definitely my favourite song by them at this point. I think "Part of the Band" is actually my least favourite 1975 song and it's still really good!
agreed here. i love this album and this band is perfect but i think just as far as personal preference goes, i was more interested in the weird/glitchy/sampley sound they were getting into on notes. but that’s okay!
Also, I'll say that oddly enough I'm not usually one to pay attention to lyrics on the first few listens because if the lyrics are good but the music is trash, I'm not gonna revisit the song again anyway, and I can ignore bad lyrics for really good music. But on first listen this line stood out to me and made me lol Now mum's not a fan of that line about her back She said, "it makes her sound frumpy and old" I said, "Woman, you are sixty-four years old" I love his lyrics when they are very straightforward and human, like the way he actually talks.
I have a whole plan for tonight to enjoy this. WE MADE IT! Very excited to be at the CT date for the first show of the tour.
man this is just fucking home run after home run. hearing them in such a tight, consistent format is a welcome change of pace, as much as i love and miss the sprawling eclecticism of their other records i think theyve tapped into something super special here
Looked up the date I'm going to and wow that's a lot of resellers and empty seats.. it was a mad dash to get these too.
I like this, some really cool songs here, Oh Caroline in particular is fantastic. This is easily the least I've been into an album of theirs on first listen though. There's a certain kind of vocal delivery he has on songs like Part of the Band, The 1975 and Wintering that I'm just not that keen on. Also feels like the slower, more acoustic based songs are less interesting than usual. Hopefully it'll grow on me.
