Nothing coming of allegations =/= they are not true While I personally haven't seen any furhter information about what the allegations involving band members actually are, I'm not going to automatically assume because no new information has come about that it's not true Edit: I can't find the tweet where it was shared there were allegations against 3 members/the BBC were involved, but if I find it I'll share it in here
Anyone who wants shit like this to be actually true should be punched directly in the throat. Like show me the facts and the proof then we can hash it out.
That's not what I meant. I was just saying that there very well may be allegations with 3 of the 4 members based on what was shared, but currently there isn't enough information to have a firm stance either way.
there’s nothing THERE except for “there are allegations”!!!! from whom! about what! how do you hold a band accountable with no information??? you should keep this shit to yourself until more information exists
I really hate this logic. 3 of the 4 members “might” have allegations, but no follow up info has come out. I remember when this shit came out last summer I saw some of the tumblr/Reddit discourse was fans trying to guess which 3 it was and who the “innocent” one was. It’s just weird and until there’s more info, move on.
I’m not here to attack or lay into anyone specifically, just wanted to say I’m not changing my opinion on a band based on hearsay and internet rumors. If something concrete is presented that’s a different story. In the meantime, I look forward to their new music.
ItsAndrew is just stating the hearsay rumors because someone brought it up. It’s not something I’m changing my listening habits for, nor am I suggesting anyone should otherwise.
Yeah they did a tour between s/t and ILIWYS as a thank you for fans, and they previewed a bunch of stuff including the Sound, She''s American and Somebody Else. Was very wild.
Yep, that was my first time seeing them. They played those three songs and A Change of Heart as well. One of my favorite shows I’ve been to
I think it's important to discuss allegations against the band (and definitely not something that should start arguments between users), but I also think there are legitimate reasons for fans to be skeptical or to want more info. To be clear, I love this band but if there was any sort of tangible proof of bad behaviour on their part, I would stop listening to them and supporting them. Full stop. That said, I just went back and read the original allegations against Adam Powell and tried to summarize them, if only for my own benefit. You can read the whole thing here, but this a summary of the thread. TLDR: it has never been made clear what (if any) allegations exist against members of The 1975, and the allegations against Adam Powell are also fairly vague. Dirty Hit has cut ties with Powell, apparently, and I personally feel OK with supporting them at this point. Basically the user says she didn't experience any of his behaviour herself and that the info is coming "through the grapevine" or fans she knows in the community. She goes on to call AP predatory, manipulative, harmful and dangerous but it's never exactly clear why. There are references to sexting and manipulating young fans, who may or may not have been underage (the author is somewhat unclear on this). She goes on to say they have "no physical proof" of sexting or manipulation, because it's not their story to share. She says nothing sexual happened between herself and AP. Much of the issue seems to centre on power dynamics and AP's interactions with fans, as well as perceived misogyny on his part, and the apparent hypocrisy of the 1975 and DH for employing him. She shares screenshots of a convo with Adam, apparently when she was alone in NYC at 3am. They talk about male and female perceptions of safety. I'm not gonna summarize it because it's kinda irrelevant to allegations of sexting and manipulation. You can read the whole thing starting here. The user then shares a back and forth with Powell where they kinda argue about a tweet she shared on Instagram. Again, nothing sexual happened. It is worth noting that along with the screenshots, this user then identifies as a survivor of abuse. That's pretty much it AFAIK. I understand why fans might expect a statement from the band, but Dirty Hit did pay for an independent investigation into the allegations, which they posted about 9 months ago. The finding was that "no criminal behaviour occurred," which may imply that some boundaries were crossed but who knows. Many fans are still angry with DH for not moving fast enough or naming Powell in the statement (note: there were probably legal reasons for this, considering the outcome of the investigation).
