This is the one thing I don't love about the song. I'm hoping this and Happiness are the only ones on the record that are this repetitive. I think this is easily my favourite single so far but still doesn't really live up to the best singles from any of their other albums for me.
Goddamn they never fucking miss I'm trying to only listen to each single once before the album is out but both this and Happiness made extremely strong first impressions on me, and I did love POTB too. I'm not sure they can top ABIIOR for me but this album could do it
Both the song and the video are so fucking delightful. Have been humming that chorus and bobbing my head all day since hearing it I'm in love with this band so much
I’m lukewarm to a lot of the lyrics on Notes, so I’m hoping he shoved all his dorky ones into Part of the Band and left the rest of the album untouched haha
Naturally, any song they make sounds great and will inevitably end up becoming lodged in my brain for days or weeks to come. "Happiness" has grown on me a lot. On the whole, however, I'm a little underwhelmed—or maybe unsurprised—so far. I love when they push barriers and change it up (Notes, Brief Inquiry). To me, it feels like they're falling back on an old formula (ILIWYS). I think, apart from "Part of the Band," all of the singles have shared characteristics with singles on the second LP. They're great songs, but certainly evocative of sounds the band has channeled in the past. Hoping the deeper cuts switch it up in more interesting ways.
Though I love me some saxophone.. I want to hear Hann rip a solo on this record. There's been some phenomenal guitar work on all these tracks, but I want a moment like The Sound where the spotlight is on.
For those who are big fans of the jazzed-up 80's 1975 songs, group Fly By Midnight came out with a new EP today, and it has this absolute banger of a track on it, with a great sax solo that I know most 1975 fans will love
