The song doesn't blow me away but it has me really excited to hear it in the context of the record. More of that style would be great.
Reiterating everyone's other thoughts that it's not what was expected. I like it a lot even though it's definitely a differently constructed song from their usual stuff. There really is a huge disconnect between how we're talking about it vs reddit. It's definitely a wayyy younger group over there based on some of the comments. 'Mattys voice is worse because he's old now' 'This is sounds like The Beatles or 60/70's music'. It's funny how much Matty can change his voice depending on the song. I mean compare these vocals to something like chocolate and the inflections and tone are vastly changed.
Loving this. Heard a lot of Bon Iver but didn’t hear any Bleachers, although apparently Jack did work on it
Not only does the chorus sound like bon iver, but he straight up rips the skinny love "my my my" in the verse lol.
Song is great. I'm sure the 2nd single is going to blow us all out of the water like Frail State did.
The Dylan comparisons were the first thing I heard. I think these are some of Matty's best lyrics. Gained a whole new appreciation for the song paying attention to those.
the dylan comparisons are apt and intended i'd imagine as he was just on the subreddit a few days ago talking about trying to do stuff in the greenwich village tradition
There’s a fair amount of i,i that sounds similar. I’ve always felt they had Bon Iver as a recent influence.
The layered vocals remind me a lot of BI too. Especially when he goes down low on the “talk about the people” line. Not hearing much Dylan.
