…going to a 1975 show and hearing the singer (in the midst of his dumb performance bit) saying Kanye West is his hero means the audience supports violent racism? Is everyone on this site okay? Do we need to scrap this one and start Chorus V2?
I was more referring to the fact that earlier this year he bragged about watching pornography where black woman are violated. This was widely broadcasted information during his fling with Queen Capitalism. Add up all the other things he has said and done in the past decade and you get an even uglier picture.
Bragging? You mean the joke from the bad comedy podcast? The dude says dumb shit on a pretty regular basis. Some of that shit is dumb enough that he should be held accountable for it. You grasping at straws here to attempt to shame him/his fans is just taking away from legitimate problems people have with him. If you think his reference to a porn site as part of a joke on a neo-shock jock podcast equates to advocating for racial violence…again I think you need to take a step back from whatever cesspool is feeding you that info and take a walk
That person only still posts on this website to vehemently defend Matty Healy. I was literally at the show and it was extremely tone deaf, and I'm saying this as someone who listens to both.
Been on this site since before the band existed, and that's far from true check my post history lol. I defend because he writes music I love, and the takes here are often very extreme and we're left with this pointless friend/enemy distinction where unless I'm fully with you I am somehow fully against you. It's not constructive in the slightest. I also don't believe he writes music I love in spite of his personality, his personality is part of what makes their music. You can think that's crazy or fucked, but I don't see how anyone else could write "Part of The Band" or "When We Are Together" other than him. I don't agree with everything he says but it's very evident to me and all the people showing up to shows that his heart is in the right place, I just don't believe you'd show up if you truly thought he was pure evil. above all else I think artist should be allowed to express themselves however they want, because that is their job. It is part of the experience of the band for better or worst. He's said many times he doesn't want to do this if he can't be himself, and that makes total sense to me. That's the last I'm gonna say on this matter, hope that resonates with someone. Thanks!
Of all the things I’ve read in this thread comparing “this person is my hero aside from the bigotry” to “I like nachos but not sour cream” makes me want to delete my account
Celebrities certainly do not need defending by people they don’t know. “His heart is in the right place” lol yes every 3 months he says something offensive only to be like “why are y’all offended it’s just a joke”
Agreed, but I think you can argue against the idea that a fanbase is advocating for racial violence by going to a pop rock concert
I know, right? Personally, I think bigotry is more like guacamole. Don't know how people can enjoy either of those things.
yes because his point was that being antisemitic and liking sour cream are the exact same thing! good job.
Comparing one to the other does undermine the seriousness of the former, I'm glad you understand that.
It absolutely does not when the only point he was trying to illustrate was that Matty said he liked one thing and not the other. The only way it undermines the seriousness of the other one is if you severely lack reading comprehension.
Well, I gave you a chance to not show your whole ass and you did it anyway. There's just no helping some people.
Regardless of what anyone's take here on what Matty said is, I think it's clear we all disavow antisemitism and know how serious of an issue it is. Nitpicking an analogy the guy made to try to act like he (a Jewish man) thinks antisemitism is no big deal is silly, and it's clear you guys are doing it for cheap internet points. For the record, I don't think publicly praising Kanye is the best idea. There are plenty ways to talk about believing in yourself without mentioning Kanye.
It’s just crazy that the people preaching this ~nuance~ when it comes to appreciating Kanye West can’t comprehend nuance when it comes to Matty Healy. His heart can be in the right place while still doing and saying harmful shit, you don’t have to pretend it’s anything else. This narrative that everyone who gets upset with him thinks he’s an evil neo nazi is a tired ass way to squirm out of being wrong
Jason makes that part pretty easy to see, man. One click. How long were you waiting to pounce with a dumb take?
