He was definitely channeling Gerard around that time. I recall a lot of MCR comparisons in that thread
I didn't answer this because it's a irrelevant hypothetical question, i don't see any problem with what he said so if I wanted to say the same thing then yeah, sure, I'd say it
It’s really not irrelevant at all to define exactly what Matty did here and ask again if you find it appropriate but ok? Look man if you think it’s totally fine for an influential (and non-Jewish) person to tell thousands of people that a known antisemite is their personal hero right to their faces despite how antisemitism affects any of them, it feels like you should reevaluate your relationship with that person. You’re going fully to bat for his Ls and he’ll never even know. What people here are upset about is just so obviously not about how Matty personally feels about Kanye West despite how much you want it to be. You can be a fan and still recognize when Matty’s being incredibly irresponsible at best
It feels like you're being willfully dense - he clearly put the caveat in that he didn't support his antisemitic remarks. I don't believe in this black and white world view where now Kanye has nothing of value because he said some things I don't like. He still meant a lot to people and expecting everyone to just flip a switch and pretend like he didn't is insane and unrealistic. You probably wouldn't go into the middle of Chicago and do this same finger wagging routine. Also I'm Jewish.
Thanks. I'd never seen this before. Super disappointing that he's still using that language, especially since Mark changed the r-word in Apple Shampoo the last time they played it. Thanks for sharing this.
He is more beloved in is hometown city than other places, that is just true, not really sure why this is what we are fixated on haha. My point was only that most normal people aren't going to disavow his entire existence based on his recent actions.
As somebody who interacts with plenty of young adults (I go to a major city’s state university), Kanye is still talked about a lot, even when disavowing his remarks. Can confirm. I think conversations out in the real world are far more nuanced than this turn toward internet outrage.
From one Jewish person to another, do you find value in Hitler's paintings? This is a serious question. Because if the argument is that bad things don't take away any good a person has done, we should be able to follow that to its logical conclusion. Or is there a line where this point of view breaks down?
No my point is you probably wouldnt walk around and condemn, guilt, and shame anyone who didn't tow this extremely online opinion that Kanye has never done anything of value because he went bonkers the last few years.
I mean, no, but that’s because i’m not an asshole who lacks social skills. I take any chance I can to call out abusers with the position I have. I don’t think I’ve ever met anyone in real life willing to stick up for Kanye. You’re telling me you interact with people in real life who still support him beyond saying he used to make good music?
When you mention 'supporting him' currently, do you mean like saying 'I thought Donda was really good', or 'he's right about the whole Hitler thing'? Yes to the former, absolutely not to the latter. It's especially hard to underrate what he still represents to the black community, even if that is largely built on his first 5 albums.
Yeah I do, it's not that uncommon. I also heard Donda blasting in cars down my street frequently when it came out.
I definitely do, yeah. I work with mostly 18-25 year olds and half the dudes I work with bought Yeezys in the last few months and praise the hell out of Graduation
