I mean there actually is a difference when you’re claiming he did something he didn’t actually do. Doesn’t mean I’m defending his actions. He’s a dipshit that needs to know when to shut the hell up. But he gets shit on like he’s fucking satan and it’s just as ridiculous as the people that defend his every word.
I think he's a massive douchebag nepo baby who made some great songs and it sucks that he gets a pass to just say whatever he wants because he's "into edgy humor".
I totally agree with that description, but the people that act like he’s a god awful person because he’s said some stupid shit need to calm down about it. We do this shit every time he opens his mouth but that’s all he does is open his mouth. You’re gonna condemn a person for being an immature idiot? He’s never shown to have malice behind anything he says or does. He’s simply just a dipshit. Doesn’t make it okay but he’s not freaking satan for christ sake
You keep saying things that I did not say. No sane person would think he's satan, there's levels to this shit. If you actually read what I wrote, I was saying that as a longtime fan of the band it's become exhausting to hear about these offensive distractions constantly, to the point where it's turned me off to their music. I think Matty Healy has said some reprehensible, racist, ableist and sexist things over the past year. I'm 11 years younger than him and I know better than to say the shit he says. It's not just about "opening his mouth" it's about the harmful ideologies that get a platform every single time something like this happens. It's about the Q-anoners and incels that get to feel "seen" when a public figure like Matty gets away with saying these things. It's about the people who are alienated by the stereotypes perpetuated by him "opening his mouth" but sure yeah let's just write him off as a dumbass and let him keep having a massive fucking platform.
I’m sorry, I wasn’t trying to imply that you’re the one saying those things. I was just speaking in general that most of the hate he gets is to such an extreme, especially once the Swifties got involved. Like I said, nothing he’s ever said or done has appeared to be with malice or actual hate in his heart. He’s just fucking stupid, immature, and thinks he’s funny. There’s no excuse for that bullshit regardless but I really don’t think he needs to be condemned like a lot of people act. I’m not giving him a pass for his behavior, I just don’t think we need to equate him to these other people being brought up in the accountability thread or wherever that are doing some fucked up shit. It’s not like no one calls him out on his shit. I just don’t understand what else exactly is supposed to be done except telling him he’s stupid and wrong. Edit: I don’t know if you edited or I just didn’t catch the last part. But I again agree with you about the harm he’s doing. But what is supposed to be done about it except calling him out for his shit? I don’t write it off or give him a pass. I’m the only one that even brought up in here how weird it was that he’s basically exposing his (fake) dick and balls to his mostly (?) underage fanbase. So no, I’m not writing jack shit off
I think it's absolutely true that there's levels to this stuff. Matty Healy should not be put on the same level as a Jesse Lacey, for example. Furthermore, I think making this comparison is extremely harmful because it manages to give his words too much weight, while also trivializing things like acts of abuse. I honestly didn't even bother to see what their new schtick is, but the dick and balls thing is totally gross and for shock value that is only fun to Matty Healy. I really don't know what the solution is - I guess I just came back to the thread to vent my frustration. This is something I've come to terms with so recently that I literally have tickets to see them in November. I think we see each other a bit more clearly now, so cheers to one of the last places on the internet where reasonable discourse can be had. I did edit my post, but what I added was purely to add clarity to my point, and I probably should have just added it as a new post.
Only other thing I’ll say is that I just hope that his apologies haven’t been hollow and he’s actually trying or people close to him are at least calling him out and not enabling him.
With all due respect, fuck you. Jesus, I thought nobody in this thread would imply Matthew throwing around ableist slurs isn't 'that serious' but I thought wrong. Some of you really need to take your blinkers off regarding him. Not engaging any further, I'll leave you all to it. Fuck.
Wait…what?! He’s exposing a fake genitalia on stage. Ummmm, that’s just a tad fucked up considering his audience.
People not talking in circles for hundreds of pages on Chorus when they can do anything else challenge (IMPOSSIBLE).
"Someone NOT commenting that they don't like the active DISCUSSION on the DISCUSSION board and letting those that want to discuss it, discuss it, and bowing out when they don't" challenge. (IMPOSSIBLE).
with all due respect, fuck off. Y’all don’t fucking read. I clearly said that’s not what I meant. I’ve been called enough slurs in my life to know the damage. You people just love to be dick heads to one another
Wild behavior to bust in here with a take about how people should take things less seriously and then immediately get offended when someone the language actually affects calls you out lol
I was considering buying a ticket to the tour but the podcast thing and the more recent R-word incident have lessened by interest in wanting to go a lot. I found out Faye Webster is coming to Chicago the same day so I am going to try and go to that instead, but it's just a bummer because if Matty was just a decent human being I and many others would not be having the weird feelings we are currently having about supporting the band.
