I mean there’s other people on the stage playing the same instrument as him. He also does the same mannerisms live
that’s my point though. His guitar is for show since other people are potentially actually playing. he should just drop it and goof off while he sings IMO
Haha what’s hilarious is my buddy bumped into Matty when meeting me for dinner on Wednesday and this is quite literally how the interaction went down. Said he was the nicest person.
I must have missed something cause I've been in love with this band for several years now and fell even more in love with them when this album came out.
Okay, weird phrasing on my part. I guess it's more like every week I see the word "Matty" trending on twitter and I wonder what people are getting mad at him about this time. That's what I automatically thought about.
Any kind of 'drama' aside, I can get why (especially Americans) may not like this band. I know plenty of people who absolutely despise his voice and his accent when he sings. He has a unique voice, and I'm always fine when people decide that someone's voice is not for them. There are plenty of bands I just can't get into because I hate the singers voice (when they're objectively a good singer, just different). I also think that until you dig deep into their catalogue and become an album fan, you may think a lot their stuff is samesy and repetitive. I also know people who insist every song sounds the same (and tbh, Matty pokes fun at himself that so much of their stuff is written in the same key). To me they're a band that if you like, you LOVE, and if you don't like, you HATE. Not too many people who are just like 'sure, they're okay'.
I think I can safely say that this probably isn’t my favorite record from the band, but it’s easily the most consistent, possibly their best as a cohesive piece of work, and it contains at least two of my favorite 1975 songs (Part of the Band, Wintering). I think others have already said it, but with a few exceptions, the highs don’t hit me quite as hard as the highs from their other albums, but at the same time, the restraint shown on the album is also what makes it their most listenable from front to back.
I can't focus on anything you say with your avatar staring at me like that. i keep thinking you just murdered your parents :)
I mean it's the only one that doesn't have interludes and the the only album where each song is theoretically a 'single' except for maybe the intro. It's also interesting that they do so many styles that resonate differently. I don't like this album as much as it gets too folky (probably the wrong word) and part of the band and wintering are both prime examples of that style that doesn't hit for me. I also *collective gasps* really don't like about you either and am surprised that's the runaway hit of the album. All I need to hear / Oh Caroline and Looking For Somebody (to Love) are my stand outs so it's safe to say I enjoy their more upbeat songs and then each album has a ballad that does it for me. All I need to Hear / I couldn't be more in love / Tonight (I wish i was your boy) / If I believe you
I’m In Love With You got to about 5 or 6 on the Alt Charts I believe. I think they’re comfortable leaving About You as the viral hit. Did that even chart?
I'm just going off of Spotify numbers and am surprised that that's the run away leader as far as streams go as it's a track I'm pretty cold on. I always find it interesting what songs grab me and how that compares to what songs grab others (especially when you get into a band like this that has 75+ songs of a variety of tempos and vibes and styles).
