Listened to Notes yesterday and I still think that album is very back heavy. I start getting really into the album with I Think There’s Something You Should Know. I think the stretch from that song to What Should I Stay is pretty much spectacular
this was one of my big issues with it too. feels like a comp of a/b singles for almost the entire first half and then an actual album after
The End I feel like could have been a B side given its a cover of an old track, I can see why matty insisted on it being on the record though from an artistic sense because it shows their shift from digital/synth to analog layering of their tracks which is something they do on Notes heavily (The End is just HNSC but orchestrated)
I like The Birthday Party, Roadkill, and Me & You Together Song, but those songs have never really clicked with me as much as they have for others. Considering all the different styles they employ in the first half of Notes, they end up contributing to why I feel so much whiplash on the first half of the album before I really start getting into the album for the back half of it.
not sure if well liked or not but this is one of my favorite songs by them. Lyrics hit incredibly hard especially during the 'bridge"
Hey. This album is really good. It’s really grown on me and clicked this last week. Also Matty really annoys me sometimes but he was great on that podcast episode. I wish they would have talked about every song on the album. I’m also glad they cut that one track because it definitely didn’t fit the vibe of the album.
At my favorite part with the record where I’m catching all the little things they do on the tracks, like the bit of organ they use on Part of the Band on the second verse
The clip from R&L performance was amazing. Did they play the whole thing on BBC? I want to see that shit
If anyone has an “I’m in Love with You” zine that they’re willing to part with, please hmu! It’s the only one I couldn’t get.
Matty's habit of sarcastic hot takes have now landed him in hot water with the metal journalism community, hahaha Pop Singer You Probably Never Heard of Said Metallica is the "Worst Band of All Time"
