the one case I could make for the album starting with The End instead of The 1975 is that The End follows up the little string outro of I Always Wanna Die (Sometimes) pretty perfectly and would tie the two albums together in a way I think would be fitting given they’re part of the same “era”. but realistically, I would miss People a ton. and I still find the Greta intro effective, even if it’s not something I revisit a ton outside of full album listens. in general, I actually have more problems with the flow/sequencing of ABIIOR than Notes, even if the latter is undeniably more unwieldy.
I love the whole of Notes but I also actually made two playlists making it into two separate albums too and they both flow really well as their own thing too, I go to them sometimes when I'm only in the mood for one of the sounds Guitar/Rock Album: 1. People 2. Streaming 3. The Birthday Party 4. Then Because She Goes 5. Jesus Christ 2005 God Bless America 6. Roadkill 7. Me & You Together Song 8. If You're Too Shy (Let Me Know) 9. Playing On My Mind 10. Guys 35 minutes Electronic/Ambient Album: 1. The 1975 2. The End (Music for Cars) 3. Frail State of Mind 4. Yeah I Know 5. I Think There's Something You Should Know 6. Nothing Revealed / Everything Denied 7. Tonight (I Wish I Was Your Boy) 8. Shiny Collarbone 9. Having No Head 10. What Should I Say 11. Bagsy Not in Net 12. Don't Worry 46 minutes
Yeah me neither really but to me Notes clearly sounds so much like two albums mashed together already that I wanted to try it, and they both work really well as their own thing
What Should I Say really clicked with me yesterday, just a really fun vibe. Like if Bon Iver decided to write a catchy pop song.
Frail State of Mind, I Think There’s Something You Should Know, and Tonight (I Wish I Was Your Boy) are among their best songs
My god the about time demo is so perfect. Crazy they didn’t use it. Hopefully they drop it at some point.
I've definitely done some Buffalo Bill-inspired dance moves to "What Should I Say" in my living room.
Lyrics can mean something to you outside their original intent. I have no idea what Loudon Wainwright intended when he wrote “The Swimming Song”, but for me it’s a funny song about depression and desperation that saved me more than once.
I just don’t do full album listens that often these days! lol. And when I do, I’m probably gonna prioritize a new release I wanna spend more time with. I know that’s contrary to most of this forum, and contrary to my former self, but that’s just where I’m at right now. Maybe I’ll give it another go today, after remembering how much I loved my several full listens that fateful summer.
My general take is that you'll know when the sequencing is tight, because you start it and the record flies by. ILIWYS is over in a heartbeat, NOACF is suuuuupery choppy for me until about "Roadkill" and then we're sailing.
