...ok got rid of the tweet to avoid starting that conversation again (I like him and his music) but I still laughed at it
Notes stands as one of the more fun albums to listen to like overall ever I think right now this would be my least favorite 1975 album — I think it loses steam just a bit at the start of side B (I think I agree with Chris DeVille on "I'm In Love With You" being a little too simple and "All I Need To Hear" isn't my favorite either) and I just think I'm a bigger fan of them in their sort of wild and unhinged experimental mode. I do think this is excellent though and it will be one of my favorites of the year. "Wintering" will join "12.23.95" as perfect December 23rd songs. I also think it's probably a reset they needed and also the succinct and focused album I wanted to see them try, and I'm sure I'll be reaching for it a ton
After what they did on BFIAFL, they should chop the Greta version off Notes and just refer to "People" as "The 1975" instead.
Yup, it's a perfect "state of the union" or however Matty referred to it. Unrelated, but one of my favorite tidbits about People is that there isn't a single cymbal on the song outside of I think some hi-hat foot work.
I was at that Sinclair show too and remember thinking “Well this is going to be one of my bragging rights shows in the future”
Notes could be right behind ILIWYS for their best record if it was as short as the new record, because the highs are very high. I do enjoy this one a lot, and think I will for a long time. Already looking forward to the first snow so I can put on Wintering.
I think it was great the first time I heard it, just has zero replay value. Same with the robot song on ABI
Would of been more impactful if it was way shorter and succinct so it was less skippable, most people don't really want to be lectured for a few minutes before the album starts
