I’ve seen them 2014, 2016, 2017, 2019x2 and now next month. One of my favorite live acts. the first time I saw them was at Coachella 2014 though and it was so bad that I didn’t become a real fan of theirs until iliwys dropped
This sounds like a definite hack job in spots, but I removed the talking from It's About Time, minus a few artifacts. (I also added back the extra measure that was missing in the intro in the YouTube clip since it was bothering me) Link if anyone wants it: Dropbox - It's About Time.wav - Simplify your life
Looking for Somebody to Love and Wintering are two songs I keep ending up listening to two or three times before moving on to the next track.
I know I am probably very alone on this but I think Oh Caroline is my least fav atm, still great and all but I think I connect with it the least emotionally.
"This'll get bigger, if you know what I mean." That first lyric is so good. Seems like a lame joke, but he's also talking about the way the world is imploding and exploding all at once around us and will likely get worse.
I would have liked to hear the BJ Burton version of this album. Shame it seems like they didn't leave it on the best terms.
I have no idea why but when he sings "The only time I feel I might get better is when we are together", it just...cuts...
After watching those Vevo videos, I’m realizing part of the reason I’ve been loving this record so much is how much it draws from my favorite older acts. I obviously love this band, but there’s an extra something added by those influences. Specifically the video made me realize Looking For Somebody To Love pulls a lot from Let’s Dance by Bowie. It feels like it would be at home next to Modern Love and the like. There’s also Paul Simon DNA all over this — it’s the first comment my dad made when I showed him Part of the Band. Those are probably my 2 favorite classic rock artists, and this record feels like those influences (and others) blended with the trademark 1975 sound. That was probably a guaranteed recipe for success with me.
damn. this might be the most i've liked an entire album by them upon first listen. for whatever reason i still feel like 'happiness' in particular is phoned in/a retread, but i've come around on part of the band in a real way and the rest of it slaps. nearly wept in the car this morning to some lines from the 1975 and basically all of 'wintering.' it's a concise, deeply felt album that really leaves me wanting more outside of the last minute of 'human too' (great ideas but it loses steam). honestly surprised how much i thought of paul simon during my listen too
Favorite song is definitely Looking for Somebody, I immediately got a big ass smile on my face when the synth and drums came in
I finally got the chance to give this a proper listen. Ultimately, the record left me frustrated. It didn’t hit for me like it seems to have for a lot of people. I think I’ve just turned a corner on Matty’s lyrics. That balancing act between cringe and endearing has tilted heavily to the former to my ears. That said, Happiness, Oh Caroline, and I’m In Love With You may very well be top 15 all time 1975 songs for me.
The only line that kinda throws me every time is the Boner one haha. Especially cause its in the first like, 30 seconds of the record. You’re either in or not almost immediately on the lyrical journey.
