I love when they do Tape Notes! They also did episode 18 around A Brief Inquiry. Hope they do a track by track with Radio X as well
The thing I hate about the 1975 “bit” is that it’s not a bit anymore. Either keep doing soft sound or just call it something else.
It’s funny cause all the reasons why they didn’t use the 1975 version in Brief still stand true in this version. He’s still singing over it. it just gets better in the back half where it opens up.
disagree! to me, it still does the thing they've always said they wanted it to do. the difference is that whereas before it was meant to be kind of a sonic overture for where the band's at musically, this way's more of a thematic "here's where we're at" check in.
Matty even said as much about the 1975 now also the newest 1975 is the most “theatrical” 1975 song, it’s so cool
You literally (British accent) said what he said and I don’t buy it. How is this track a “check in” over any other song on here. If he wants a “Segaaaaa” than it should be that. Idk it’s not a big gripe, I just wish it was as consistent as the title suggests.
so true lmaoooooo i've debating changing my tags for each album's version but i kinda like that "the 1975" is by far my most played song
Yes, I was intentionally using their language. The opening song is a pretty broad survey of the world as he sees it from a cultural and political lens, without much of a traditional narrative. The chorus as it stands is simply "it's about time and this is what it looks like" -- very specifically framed as an overture.
