This isn’t on Newbury Comics’ website. That most likely means I shouldn’t bother going there to see if they have it, right? Where else would have it? I haven’t bought a record in-store in a long time.
I’m close to Watertown when I’m at work, but I live in Salem and I was hoping to be able to make a quick trip somewhere to buy it tomorrow. Maybe I’ll give Newbury a try anyway. (There’s a local store here that I really like but they don’t strike me as the type to stock The 1975.)
If you've got a Bull Moose near you they're the best record store I know right now. Several of them closed in 2020 though so I don't know if there's any south of the NH state line anymore
from the first time i heard it and even moreso now the bridge / outro section of “part of the band” blows me away some of matty’s finest writing ever
Now I want them to take Lydia Loveless on tour so I can hear two Verlaine/Rimbaud songs in the same evening
lot of great piano on this album but the moment that gives me the biggest full body grin on maybe the entire album is when the staccato chords come in on "wintering"
Think my favorite piano moment may be the quick staccato line after “..if you’re insincere” in All I Need To Hear
Just swung by my local shop and grabbed the white indie retail vinyl. It seemed weirdly inexpensive, and when I picked it up from the shelf something felt off - then I realized it’s because this is the first LP they’ve made that fit onto one disc!
I always enjoyed POTB but wasn't wild on it It's so at home here and I love it a lot more listening to the album. Also Wintering, About You, Looking For Somebody... all phenomenal. Really happy they went this direction, and I can't wait for the weather to get colder
Part of the Band is still my least favourite and it kinda feels like an awkward place for it in the tracklist too. Other than that though the first half of this is so good, feels like a further perfection of that definitive 1975 sound.
i think my favourite part of this album is the "studio chatter" that seeps into the tracks. "george do the hihats now" on all i need to hear, the distorted interview chat in happiness, the whole beginning of wintering. that's this album's twinkly piano ambience for sure.
This. Also, I’m in the minority of people who aren’t enamored by the opener and I wish there was one more uptempo song in the final third.
Really loving how warm this album sounds. I do still really like NOACF but this feels almost opposite in approach at times (NOACF is kind of cold to me, with its electronic influence and some of the soft songs, long and meandering, etc). I’m glad to have both, but this is a super easy listen. ‘Human Too’ the only song that hasn’t done much for me yet
very easily my least favorite on here, but everything else is at least pretty good. really not vibing with most of the lyrics on here. in every other regard i think this will probably end up my favorite record of theirs, though. they do much better in short form like this imo
ive never been particularly taken by his songwriting but i feel like a lot of this record dives into his worst impulses
i searched the thread and saw that it was brought up already and dont wish to dig up any unpleseant debates but fuck it the bleachers vibes throughout are wonderful.
